This was a former palace, although you would have no sense of that. I can't say the staff were very helpful. We thought we were going to the modern part of the museum and ended in the older art section. Tickets were cheap.

The modern part of the museum with art from very famous artists such as Monet and Rembrandt is good but I wouldn't say it's world-class museum, nothing compared to other museums of this kind in Europe like he Ufizzi or the Louvre. However, it is...More

Lots of Romanian art of all periods as you would expect. But there is also a nice showing of Grand Masters, notably Lucius Cranach, the Elder, straight through the impressionists, from Matisse to Lautrec. All this in a former Royal Palace.

I’m afraid I’m going to have to disagree with what many of the reviewers have to say about this gallery. I found the whole experienced, and most of the art work displayed, depressing For those interested in religious art work and icons it must be...More

Go for the medieval collection which is world class and beautifully displayed. The modern collection contains about three master artists whle the rest are very ordinary. The curators should be more selective. Not everything painted by a Romanian is worthy of being hung in a...More

Really looking forward to our visit here, but made the silly mistake if not checking the openings times. Closed all day on a Monday (and Tuesady). We missed our visit as we travelled home on the Tuesady. All well, maybe next time.

I totally agree with the praise of other visitors as far as the art goes - which is the important part, of course. I wanted to see only the Romanian art, as have seen plenty of art from other climes. I was impressed and pleased...More

How do societies construct the image of the divine? For Romania, it’s with Unibrows and what we would consider rhinoplasty. Of course, of the two images of Black persons in the gallery, one is Judas who painted kissing a blond haired Jesus from a 20th...More

We enjoyed every minute of the three hours we had amongst the terrific art works. The Royal Palace which houses the collections in its two wings is a fabulous sight in its own right. A staff member told us that there are plans to devote...More
