To get to Machu Picchu we took a "collectivo" from Cusco to Ollantaytambo, then the Inca Rail train to the town of Aguas Calientes. We stayed overnight 1 night in Aguas Calientes, visited the ruins the next morning and took the 2PM train back to Ollantaytambo, then the collectivo back to Cusco. The collectivo is a shared van, you don't... More

Having waited all our adult lives to visit Machu Pichu I am glad to report that it was well worth the wait - spectacular comes to mind. This is definitely a "Must See" destination and in fact defines the term. We visited during the rainy season and were prepared for foul weather and indeed wondered if we would be able... More

We went as part of a guided tour and were not disappointed. We travelled up,on a Peru Rail narrow gauge train to Machu Picchu itself and then travelled up to the site by public bus. We arrived around 10am and found it very busy with many tourists thronging around. Despite this it was a great place with many interesting parts... More

Somewhat difficult to visit, fly to Cusco, acclimatise and adjust to the 3,000m altitude ,bus to Machu Picchu township, then hike for four days over mountains over 4,000mhigh or take a train along the Sacred Valley, then bus up to the mountain top to see this Wonder of the Modern World. Worth every effort.

Over the years we have seen great things in Asia and the Americas, but nothing tops this !! The ruins which are large and well preserved situated perfectly up there high in the beautiful Andes mountains. If this place isn't on Your bucket-list it should be !!

Go after the crowds have died down, about 2-3 pm and stay until 6 or later. You'll miss the crush and your photos will be amazing. The place is simply magical. Words don't do it justice. Just go!

This place is awesome and so much better than I had expected. I would advise getting up as early as possible and being one of the first people up there in a morning as you get to see the place with less visitors spoiling the backdrop :)

Much has been written about the wonders of Machu Picchu, which is without doubt a wonder of the world, especially if you time it early or late to avoid the terrible overcrowding. However, for me climbing the summit of WAYNA PICCHU is UTTERLY SURREAL, but if you suffer from vertigo and haven´t the strength to climp a never ending climb of... More
