Walk around the city and look up. The historical part of Lima has always fascinated me. Just walk and soak in the atmosphere. Eat the street food which is amazing!

Beautiful different styles and so interesting that since women didn’t get out much during those times, these were built for gossiping!

Look around at the lovely balconies when you visit the Centro Histórico of Lima. Beautiful balconies made of wood have been preserved in many of the buildings. Take a good look at some of the balconies, one has some very interesting avant garde art worth...More

Those balconies are very impressive in their size and relationship to the building. Built by the Spanish during their occupation of Peru, these balconies and other architectural elements clearly show the presence of Spain in Peru.

This plaza is beautiful as so many in Peru are. The wooden balconies were perhaps unique to this plaza.

Awesome architecture. Wooden enclosed balconies facing the plaza de las armas and some side streets.

Particularly around the Plaza des Armas, quite a few houses with such balconies are standing. Just stroll along the streets and stop for a glimpse of these lovingly done balconies, which are so typical for the old town of Lima.

Probably the biggest attraction of Lima’s historic centre. There are some glorious timbered balconies spread around the city that add an element of uniqueness to an otherwise uninteresting city.

The guards were very kind. Even though the place was supposedly closed, they opened the main doors and let us have a peak. It's like being transported back to the times when the Spanish crown still ruled the Americas.

The beautiful wood balconies are a unique accent to the stone building. The late afternoon sun warms them up, too, so see them then if you can make it to the historical district late in the day.
