We spent about an hour here. The first thing to notice is the skulls on the front gate. Two of the local kids showed us what they do to earn money when not in school. Locals will pay them a small amount of money to...More

I visited Almudena on the anniversary of my mom's death (many miles from home). It is a beautiful (and historic) cemetery, which felt like a celebration of the lives of those buried there --- as is my impression/experience of cemeteries in Central & South America,...More

Colorful, Interesting. Windows display the loved ones favorite things. Young boys clean the metal surfaces with lemon rind. Flower market and food stands are at the entrance.

I doubted my guide when he said the cemetery was the happiest place in town -- but it was. We visited on Sunday after church. Locals were there visiting their deceased relatives in the mausoleums. They took the favorite food and drink of the deceased...More

This is a very large cemetery with the crypts above ground. When you arrive at the cemetery, there are a bunch of kids that will come up to you. For a few bucks, they will wash the front of the tomb off with lime juice....More
