Went here twice once in April once in May. Very interesting area to shop. I bought a fabulous hat to protect myself from the Sun for only $25 US. It would have cost at least 100 in the states. We bought some sauces and later...More

I loved this market for its abundance of fresh--and delicious--produce. You can also buy textiles, meats, cheeses, fish, already-prepared lunch, and more, but the produce was particularly great--and so, so cheap. It was clean (though of course full of so many different smells, some of...More

A quite impressive market full of fresh food. The place is packed with tons and tons of different fruits and veggies, meat and bread stuff. It's a dance of smells and blasts for eyes. The famous queso helado can be found on the second floor...More

Because of our busy program of visits in Arequipa, we could visit the Mercado Central (or Mercado de San Camilo, the two names refer to the same market, but this may not be clear to everyone) only mid-afternoon, on time just before the closing (which...More

This is a very different market to home, but very interesting. You can definitely get just about all you supplies here. It seems very clean and tidy, the only thing I didn't like was the exposed meat on top of the butchers counter. It is...More

We had a great time at the market. It has many different sections from fruits and vegetables to meat and fish. There is even a section for the local healers to sell. We came here as part of a cooking class and sampled some fruit....More

We strolled through the market before noon and in the early morning. A must see. You notice the difference between countryside markets very well in the presentation and the offer of the products (and probably in the prices). An interesting spot to get in touch.

Huge place that locals go to get their shopping done. There's aisles/sections for everything one needs to buy -meat, produce, seafood, cheese, fruits, juices, herbal remedies, and restaurants. Loved seeing how locals shop and the varieities of fruits and vegetables.

Such fun to wander the isles and marvel at the colors, smells, variety and craziness of this central market. Be sure to stop to have a fresh made juice of your choice from one of the ladies manning the long high counters. We ate ceviche...More
