The Molino de Sabandía (Sabandía Mill) is a three centuries old water mill, set in the old Arequipa countryside. Build in 1621. The magnificent Sabandia Mill towers over the bucolic countryside, its white walls shining in the sun. Its sturdy buttresses, vaults, gargoyles, gates, and balconies, built of the white volcanic stone known as sillar, give it a character that has withstood the passing of time. A beautiful cascade of water, surrounded by hundred-year-old trees, powers the heavy millstones. Visitors can enjoy a fascinating and extensive collection of cacti and succulents, as well as a rich variety of local plants and flowers. Sabandia Mill is home to vicuñas, llamas, alpacas, guinea pigs, roosters, local birds and an immense Arequipa fighting bull. The architectural ensemble of the Sabandia Mill, nestled in a site of particular natural charm, creates an aesthetically pleasing contrast of bright white walls against the green of the surrounding countryside. The mill is located in the district of Sabandia, about 20 minutes from downtown Arequipa.

Highly recommended! Besides being able to appreciate its architecture with the sillar of Arequipa and observe some of the mills working so far. We really enjoy the mill because it’s like having a little bit of Arequipa in one magic place with Llamas, Alpacas, guanacos,...More

Visited 16 years ago and wanted to go back. Lovely grounds, water wheels that show how corn was ground in this old mill years ago, and a restaurant nearby for snacks, beers, or food. Some tourist stuff offered like horse rides but those seem to...More

After missing this attraction on a trip nine years ago, we decided to make the effort this time. Even with our own vehicle, the effort wasn't worth it. You walk thru the mill (1 interpretive sign), out the back stairs, around via the animals, and...More

If you you would like to spend some time far from the city you should go there. Green grass to do some activities: make a BBQ, to play some sports, canopy, horse riding, quads, a mini little zoo, etc.

We visited in March 2017 with three young children (ages 7, 7, and 4). We used private transportation and arrived around 10:30 am, well before the tour buses, so a tour experience may be much different. First, there are a lot of tourist trap attractions...More

The molino is a decent place to go and well maintained. However the surroundings are too popular, chaotic and no mans land. I admit i took a nice pic with some ladies with hawks but then the parking is super dusty and dirty, you have...More

This mill is nice but nothing special. You have seen it in 10 minutes. This mill works with the water coming in on the mill. the strength of the water turns the mill around. That's about it. The architecture is very nice. on the way...More
