Best value (free). Valparaiso would appear as an ordinary port town unless you go for a walk with Danny. His knowledge of history, art , politics and anything else you want to know is second to none. Fun guy too.

We travelled from Santiago for a day trip. Our guide walked us through 3 of the (42!) hills down to the port. It was very interesting seeing and hearing the history of the area.

Cool city with great and hip restaurant food, chocolate shops, ice cream shops and pastry shops hidden in nooks among windy hilltop streets covered by graffiti (mostly trashy but some good street art). We had lunch at Ají limon Peruvian and excellent well priced food.

Valparaiso: a must for anyone who is in Santiago. Historic port city still with great economic and military activity, features many historic buildings and old houses on the slopes of the hills. Unfortunately many of these houses are not well preserved but that does not...More
