Good respit from city, with places to recline on grass or sit on a bench. Quiet fountains. Did not enter the castle (closed that day). Security helpful with directions, keeps list of countries of travelers.

This magnificent park is located in the Lastarria area of Santiago. It is well worth a visit as is the climb to the top of the Castillo Hidalgo.
I think the Castillo is under-rated in the reviews. It is an oasis of greenery in the Santiago city center that affords snatched glimpses of the city. Go in the late afternoon.
This was the first attraction to which we were taken by our guide shortly after our arrival in Santiago. It is well worth the relatively easy short climb to the top to see the remains of the castle itself and the view it affords across...More
It's a climb to the top of the hill and Castillo Hidalgo, but the 380 view is worth it. It a great park area with various walkway (steps) to the top. The Castillo is only open for special events.
Old castle on hill in middle of the city provided a very pleasant escape from the city crowds. Many stairs and paths to get to the top for views of the city but also plenty of drinks stalls along the way. Heard a cannon go...More
it seems like just a little hump in the city till you climb up it. depending on which side you attack it from. there are some Incan style stairs leading up and it is kind of steep. from the top you get a great view...More
Located at the top of Cerro Santa Lucia, there's not much left of the castle but the picturesque walls. However, you come here for the magnificent views of Santiago and the snow-capped Andes in the distance.
The park is only accessible to tourist vehicles, locals are requested to walk from street level to the summit. From the upper car park there is still a steep climb up a series of stone stairs to the viewing platform on the tower top. Views...More
This was my favorite thing to do in the city. I'm so glad we went. It is a maze of walking trails up to a castle. Great views at the top. Along the way you will see turrets, statues, cannons, lizards, birds, stone entranceways, grand...More
