About
Only 14km from Puerto Varas, this environment and biodiversity Conservation Park consists of 150 hectares of native forest, fields, sunken forest on Maullin River and a wild animal rehabilitation center. Please we need your Reservation to give you the schedule, price and timing for your visit. There, we offer several activities, all guided, such as trekking the forests, navigation through the sunken forest, fly-fishing, bird watching and a tour at the wild animal center. Your visit can last from one hour and a half to six hours, depending on the activities you choose to do. In the park we also have a "fogon" (room where we cook with fire and eat) where you can enjoy a great homemade lunch (advance reservation necessary) and a big room where a large number of people can find shelter for an event. Our principal goal is to protect our environment by making it known and giving each visitor a unique and personal experience with the environment. A big hug

We had a delicious homemade lunch and then visited the submerged forest, something really unique: Did not have time to visit the animal refuge but will be back
Highly recommended

We had a wonderful lunch (I am a picky vegetarian) in a beautifully located restaurant by the maullin riverside and did the walk through the forest plus the sheltered birds and pumas.
We did not have time for the river trip but we were told is very beautiful.
As a Chilean I wish there would be more entrepreneurs like Susanna and Silvio, a very remarkable couple and family (their kids help running the farm)

My husband and I were lucky to visit this remarkable place on an excursion arranged by our travel agent. It is a unique place with a reverence for nature that is intoxicating. We saw the unique "floating forest" and had the amazing eco system explained to us. Our host were warm and provided a delicious lunch with outstanding bbq. We didn't have time to see the wildlife rescue but would love to go back another time. The Romahue Foundation is worth supporting!

Wasn't quite sure what to expect but the visit exceeded expectations. Fascinating forest walk in a completely new environment for me. Bruno was so knowledgeable and good at explaining. Walk to see the animal sanctuary - so good to hear the back story and then a great lunch

Our family of five had such a delightful day at Romahue. Our children are aged 7, 8 and 11. We were lucky to have a beautifully clear day. We first visited the wildlife centre and learned about some of the native Chilean animals (including the magnificent pumas) and then went on a walk through the forest. This walk might be challenging for younger children or those with shorter attention spans. We absolutely loved it. Our youngest was a bit bored as it is essentially a discussion of the native flora but that's what happens on family holidays, he just had to stay with us and keep going. Its quite a long walk. Our 8 year old was tired by the end. Our 11 year old was utterly engaged and found the walk easy. At the end of the long walk we had the most amazing lunch. We felt awful as the two youngest children didn't eat most of the amazing food prepared for us (just because they are picky kids, not because the food wasn't amazing plus they filled up on the freshly baked bread and home made mayonnaise). We had, all homemade, pea soup, steak and potatoes, salad and creme caramel for dessert. Amazing! We have had a busy time driving around Chile visiting lots of towns and doing lots of things but it was wonderful to disconnect and spend some time learning about the native forest and the animals of Chile. Highly recommended.

My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to this conservation park. Our guide, Bruno, was very passionate and knowledgeable about the work being done at Romahue. It was fun to see all the animals being cared for and helped. We especially loved seeing the Pumas and learning how they came to be at the park. After the animals, Bruno took my husband for an informative 45-minute walk through the old-growth forest. As it was a bit chilly, I opted to wait back at the reception area where I was offered tea and visited with Valentina while awaiting their return. She gave me suggestions of other fun things to do in the area. We recommend this tour to animal and nature lovers. Wear your walking shoes and enjoy Romahue!

Silvio and Susana are lovely people who are very committed to ecology. Silvio is extremely knowledgeable about the trees, plants and animals of the area. We saw many different bird species. The Kumar and other animals are well cared for. The lunch was also excellent.

We went to see the animals, but the grounds are very nice too. A family run plaace which also serves you up a home made lunch makes a great day out. The access road is a bit rough, so use a rental car or a 4x4!

My husband and I arrived in the morning sun to the beautiful setting of the main house on the river bank. We were met by Silvio and his staff who were most welcoming. They did not admit until we were eating the fantastic lunch of steak from the associated cattle farm that they had not been told by our tour operator that my husband was suffering with a foot injury and unable to walk well on uneven or sloping ground: Appearing with a wheeled walking frame the team quietly sorted a personalised tour for us.

With much help and support given in an appropriate and friendly manner we both were able to relax in the small shallow metal boat and let Silvio guide us engineless through the beautiful sunken forest. His knowledge helped us understand the fragility of the Eco system within the world we had entered. We have travelled quite broadly but never experienced anything like this before

The rescue and conservation areas were inspiring. The rescued Pumas, wild cat, owl, and birds all had their own stories of why they were there. The programme to support increasing the numbers of endangered Pudu deer was explained (and the 3 day old baby beautiful)

They told us how they had 45 eggs given to them by the police rescued from the illegal egg collectors and had hand reared the parakeet chicks so that they might soon be released back to the wild.

The star of the show was the baby starling in his hand made nest in the restaurant who happily chirped for more food having been rescued from the jaws of death almost at birth.

Lunch - the most amazing steak we have had (from Silvio's cattle) cooked to perfection and serenaded by the family.

We both wish Silvo, his family and team every success in preserving thus safe haven for the future. He deserves much support for the passion he clearly has for sustaining this exquisite environment

We went out to the nature and conservation reserve where they save and rehabilitate wild animals.

They have two sheds, one for animals that can be returned to the wild and those that have become dependent or too used to humans.

We saw native parrots, a wild cat, pudu, owl, puma and other animals. On the way to see the pumas, we saw the huge native bumblebees and lots of flora.

A pudu fawn has been born 5 days before and it came to see us.

Valentina was a guide and is knowledgeable and a passionate advocate for wildlife and nature.

There is a unique river that has a volcanically formed iron bottom. The river is covered with trees and vegetation that have adapted to living in the water. Their roots and branches form an intertwined mass and when the river is high enough the trees float. Unfortunately there has not been much rain, so we could only poke the boat’s nose into the tunnel through the trees. It was enough for us to imagine what the deeper sections would be like. A short tailed snake swam by and climbed onto a tree branch.

We then sat down and were served a fantastic steak lunch cooked over coals.

If you do nothing else in Punta Varas, go and see this place.
