They delayed only a week before departure and on the day we couldn't board. They tried to chuck people out in the middle of the night at the departure date which ruined all the plans in chile already in freezing puerto natales in the street . They are horrible people, no customer service and food isn't good . Everyone missed their flight changed their plans paid extra for hotels, including families with young kids. They refuse any refund. You are so damn stuck as tourist. Awful choice and not worth it. They should not carry tourist. Captain said people shouldn't have booked...what!! I don't recommend it. Better fjords and wild life in Norway. Oh and you don't have wifi in ship so if you are stuck in there you can't re arrange nothing. So if you are desperate to book this disgusting thing have at least week off nothing planned either side...Awful and they repulsed me with their attitude

I booked and paid for this trip about 6 months in advance. Starting about 6 weeks ahead of the scheduled departure they started making storm related changes to the schedule ( fair enough). What started as a 1 day delay was repeated 5 times ( the last three delays were within the 45 day period prior to departure, where you forfeit 30% if you cancel). As the delays were screwing up other reservations and incurring penalties we elected to cancel and fly at 1/8 the cost. Navimags cancellation policy said they will refund the ticket price (-30%) within 20 business days. We are now at more than 30 business days, no refund and no response from the company. Others have been waiting longer. Same situation. Pirates, not sailors.

I travelled North from P Natales to P Montt.
I'll mention the downsides first. The boat was three days late. I'd read the advice that it didn't always arrive in the morning so not to book anything soon after arrival, but I didn't imagine that to mean don't book anything for three days after arrival. Also, we didn't know straight away that it would be three days. We were given good warning about the first day. I discovered on Friday that we wouldn't board on Saturday but a day later. On Sunday, Navimag kept saying that we might board that evening but "try again in an hour". But in the event we didn't board until Monday evening. It's very difficult to arrange alternative accommodation at this sort of notice. Initially we were expecting dinner once on board but, owing to late boarding, this did not materialise. Some might fret about the lack of wi-fi on board (for the passengers at any rate), but I was glad of the "technology holiday"
On the plus side, once the trip started I really enjoyed it. There were just three of us in an eight-berth cabin. I slept OK despite the noisy ventilation system. The food was plentiful enough - not gourmet cuisine but quite acceptable. I did feel that the total banning of alcohol on board was something of an over-reaction to previous passenger misbehaviour. The views, of course, were wonderful. In particular it was interesting to pause outside Puerto Edén whilst some loading and unloading took place. We were adequately warned about the likely pitching of the ship during the section in the open sea but, in reality, I didn't find it too bad. I enjoyed playing deck chess and also the visit to the Bridge.
Overall, I recommend this as an eco-friendly (well, relatively) way to cover the distance - you just need to take the timetable with a generous pinch of salt.

Although we had good experience booking the ferry (the staff was polite and very responsive), the news last night that our ferry had to be cancelled due to "weather" in February feel a bit we are in a scam. The departure had to be switched from Tuesday to Wednesday due to the "weather" condition in the next month... We have the feeling that they try to do this to avoid responsibility and having to refund (in the email it said "beyond our responsibility"). How do they know the weather in the rest of the season is better on a Wednesday than on a Tuesday? We are yet to communicate with them about the refund of change of schedule, but do not feel good with the refund. I believe they should change their communication strategy or simply admit that they had to change the schedule because of whatever, not the weather, and to accept the responsibility.

Unless you can hang out for weeks waiting for sailing , avoid this ferry. They canceled on us twice, requiring re organizing our entire itinerary TWO TIMES. We needed up losing $ on non refundable air fares and hotels. After second cancellation we asked for refund. They held on to our payment , despite promises that we’d get refund “ next week” , for 6 weeks. Finally got refund by filing a fraud claim with Visa card company and They recovered our $.

BE WARNED when booking - Navimag’s conditions allow you to cancel a booking, with a refund granted if you do it within a certain time frame. Despite us cancelling within this time-frame and then confirming we were due a refund they have not paid it. We have now chased them for months, but they do not respond to any of our email or calls about this. We are having to resort to seeking assistance from Chile’s consumer rights body, SERNAC. If you book this trip and then are not able to travel, you will not see your money again.

we looked very much forward to travel despite the quite high price. but, navimag postponed the journey by three days and did NOT inform us. we only found out by accident and needed several attempts to get a reply message. what a terrible communication experience. the promised refund was not transferred until 2 months later, every e-mail contained another excuse. finally, we got our money back (2.200US$) after initiating a paypal client protection procedure. what a poor performance. defenitely not to recommend.

First act: The ferry would be departing three days later than scheduled, but Navimag didn’t bother to let us know. We only learned it accidentally, on short notice, and not from them, but other tourists who had been lucky enough to receive an email a week before. We immediately tried to reach Navimag for official information or find out why they didn’t contact us. They didn't answer the phone at all, and didn't reply to emails for days - or only in weird non sequiturs that failed to answer any of our questions. At some point it was too late for us to accommodate our travel plans so we decided to cancel the booking (worth $2200).

Second act: At first they ignored the cancellation request. It was only after being pressed repeatedly that they finally confirmed it and promised a full refund within 15 days. Getting to this point alone took a lot of effort - as they continued to ignore most emails and apparently disconnected their office phones. Needless to say, they reneged on their refund promise, failed to pay up, kept putting us off with ever more vague and non-committal statements, week after week, and at some point stopped communicating entirely.

Third act: The only reason we eventually (after two months!) got refunded was that we had asked Paypal to step in. They investigated the case, decided in our favour, and the money was transferred back, apparently over Navimag’s heads. Otherwise we likely would have never seen it again.

Bottom line: Booking a trip with Navimag looked like a great experience on their website, but in reality it was a nightmare. This is definitely not a company you want to do business with.

FERRY CANCELLED

We booked a 4 night trip on the Navimag departing from Puerto Mont on Tuesday February 21st 2023. The cost was $2220 for two people. We paid this money on 2 September 2022. The ferry was cancelled on Tuesday February 7th and we were offered a refund. We were advised that the refund would be paid within 20 days. 38 days later and we’re still waiting. We’re still in South America so I’ll take up the matter with Barclaycard on my return to the UK. But just a warning to other passengers that you need a Plan B and plenty of extra funds if you have a Navimag booking. .

We went from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales on 27th December. The new ferry was really amazing, all clean and new and the whole crew was really helpful and nice.
They served food 3 times a day, plenty of food! Every day new varieties, lots of fresh fruits and salads. We also got the possibility to visit the bridge, asking the Captain loads of questions ;-) Sebastian (our main contact onboard) was always very helpful and informed all passenger all the time about important view points and the time schedule.
Be aware, due to weather conditions, the ferry might leave later or arrive earlier/later, we had 1 day delay arriving in Puerto Natales, but the crew made it possible to give us a short wifi access in order to inform the booked hotel/hostel. The organization went very well. Would definitely recommend this trip. The landscapes are so beautiful.
Only little negative point: There's a gym on board, but despite the ferry is quite new, everything in the gym is very old or damaged. There were some renovations going on, so it was closed for a few days on our trip.
