Opposite Raffles hotel and the Mall in a great location. Historic central building that is full of character. Lots of restaurant choices inside and out

Lovely piece of the past put to modern uses.
Near to Carlton Hotel and Raffles.
Lots of food of various types and several bars and coffee outlets . An open space for seating and music.
Good if you need a toilet as you wander the city.
Covid has slowed the pace and the range of places open at any time but a nice place to escape the heat.
Church nearby with University, park and museum 100 m away

Because of the pandemic, it had been more than a year since we last visited Chijmes. We usually plan to visit after dark because we appreciate the architecture and the dramatic and artistic lighting throughout the complex. This month, it was well decorated with Christmas lights, and there was even a light show with images cast on the chapel. We also like the calm and relatively quiet atmosphere in Chijmes, and its proximity to Raffles City and City Hall MRT station. It seems to get more popular with each passing year, and it has limited space, so eventually it will become too crowded.

Chijmes is a timeless icon in the Civic District, CHIJMES has made a graceful transition from a former school to a lifestyle complex.
Formerly a girls school known as the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus Middle Education School, CHIJMES (pronounced ‘chimes’) harks back to a bygone age. While school is no longer in session, this lifestyle complex’s green lawns, marble waterfalls, courtyards and neoclassical buildings makes it a great spot to unwind.
CHIJMES began with one building—Caldwell House—which was designed by prominent colonial architect George Coleman (who also designed Old Parliament House) as a home for a Senior Magistrate’s clerk.
In the daytime, CHIJMES retains a sense of tranquillity and harmony, making it a peaceful oasis amid the bustle of the city. At night, its exciting dining and nightlife options spring to life, with buzzing bars that offer live music and restaurants serving up everything from Spanish fare to Indian delicacies.
Over all, Chijmes is a good spot to visit to visit the history

For Crazy Rich Asian Fans, this was the location of Colin and Araminta's wedding. But even if you're not a fan, its still a beautiful structure nonetheless. If you happen to be wandering by, why not stop for a couple of selfies and explore the grounds a little?

Chijmes with a silent J is a mouthful word to say unless you wanna spell and spread out the whole "Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus Middle Education School Singapore" that its short of.

And with that gothic architecture and spire it can only be an European designed Catholic Church. Except it's not. But it did used to be the nun run sister act girls school as well as orphanage where people would leave their unwanted infant girls for nuns to raise. Now this glittering, glamorous shopping and dining complex is serving the community in much more modest way by providing a wedding venue, high end shopping, dining experience and allows leaving only tips and good reviews behind.

It's still a national monument and heritage landmark though and very distinctive among all other modern buildings.

Once a catholic convent but now a entertainment complex was one example of some of the stunning architecture typical of the Colonial district. Although we didn't venture inside I hope to return to get the chance.
