About
An experience for all five senses. Start at the Tekka Centre, a traditional wet market and food court where fresh meat, seafood, vegetables, fruits and dry goods are sold. Cruise down Serangoon Road to find more groceries, restaurants, teahouses, tailors and Mustafa Centre, a massive department store selling anything and everything. Visit during Deepavali, the Hindu festival of light, held in October or November.

Not very satisfied

I would rather say the worst ever area in Singapore. Peop are so awkward and bit difficult to walk in speciallyin evenings. But the food is quite nice and expensive as usual. But tasty.

Little India gives you a very filtered and cleaner version of what real big India as a country is. Busy, crowded, noisy, business oriented, congested etc etc.

This is one of many ethnic pockets in Singapore like Chinatown, Muslim Quarter and represents Singapore's multicultural immigrant and colourful neighborhoods.

A feast for the senses
Feb 2021 • Couples
As the covid outbreak has led to a ban on international travel for Singaporeans since mid March 2020, weekends are spent visiting local attractions, many of which I last visited as a student or teenager. Little India is a bustling, colourful business community that stirs around midday and becomes busier and more crowded with each hour. It is a community of shophouses centred along Serangoon Road, offering a slice of Indian culture in cosmopolitan Singapore.

A walk along Serangoon Road (or even a drive through it), is a feast for the senses, with vendors selling everything under the sun (practically all imported and not just from India) from exotic spices, sarees, fabric by the metre, accessories from solid gold jewellery to plastic baubles and great local food, with thosai, roti, biryani being popular choices, as well as non Indian options such as chicken rice, hot dogs and kebab/satay. Weekday evening is a good time to visit if you plan to explore the area on foot and pick up some souvenirs, especially during Deepavali (usually in November) when Serangoon Road is decked out in fairy lights for the festival.

With the Indian diaspora growing daily over the past decade, enterprising merchants of are importing more ethnic products and seasonal merchandise for a ready market. Today, even Indian festivals hitherto unknown among non Indians and hardly observed by the indigenous Indians in Singapore, such as Pongal, or winter harvest festival (in January) sees Serangoon Road all lit up for six weeks to spread cheer, attract more visitors and drum up sales.

Real different experience

Nice and colourful place to visit. Different culture to experience. Be mindful of anyone who offers to take a photo for you. Be it phone or camera, you might need to pay to get it back.

Vibrant and Different Neighborhood
Mar 2020
This is a very colorful and vibrant neighborhood with great restaurants that offer some variety away from the typical shopping mall food. Interesting markets. Sad that the residents are so exploited in the industries that use their labor.

Colourful, vibrant and a treat to all your senses

Visited Little India on a Friday evening to check out the lights and displays at Little India.

In fact this is the best time to visit, during Deepavali, when Serangoon Road was lighted up for the Festival of Lights.

From the nearest MRT Station (Little India, downtown & north east lines), as you exit, just follow the signs or the crowd.

If you are a vegetarian there are good selections of Indian vegetarian restaurants in the area.

The best time to visit is in the evening, and best to explore Little India on foot. Walk along the main Serangoon Road and venture the side alleys for some surprises.

One of my favourite places to visit!
Aug 2019
A very special place in Singapore that every tourist must visit. The place where you can find everything and especially indian food for any taste. Very colourful area with lots of shops and restaurants, best place to buy gold. Those who are hunting for spicies, Little India is the a perfect place to go! There is a huuuuge indian store - Mustafa centre- with tons of different products (from food to candies and clothes to souvenirs and accessories) and for the best, cheapest prices! And its open 24/7!
Little india is quite noisy place and of course you have to be careful for pick-pockets (as everywhere around the world) even thoug Singapore is concidered as one of the most safest places in the world. Also its smelly and very unusual for those who is not used for dirt and aromas. As there are lots of restaurants, the smell of curry and turmeric will be all over :-) As well as indian aroma sticks. But if your are looking for the opposite side of Singapore and for some exotic-its the place to be. There are several temples and even an Indian heritage centre. At Little India Arcade you will find an awesome collection of shophouses -best place to buy souvenirs and different indian products.
Even at night the Little India is never empty. Actually totally opposite-it is full of locals and tourists who came to seek for some exotic experience in a glamour Singapore. The only problem that you can face in the middle of the night (and most likely even at day time) is catching a taxi. First of all the crowds are so big that the supply of taxis are lower than a demand from travellers. Secondly-not every taxi will agree to take you to a specific area of the city as usually they are on the way and home and will agree to take an order only if its on the way... Yes, yes, I'm very serious. Taxi drivers are very spoiled in Singapore and they are getting very good salary so they can afford to choose.. Several times we faced this problem.
There is a metro station right at the entrance to the area so if you leave somewhere nearby then its the best and fastest way to get there. And cheapest. Actually wanna add that Singapore metro is smth worth to take a ride in at least once.
Other than that, Little India is an amazing place to visit!
