The Western Monastery is steps away from the famed Yuen Yuen Institute but is more photogenic in our opinion. The newly renovated structure offers a glimpse of Hong Kong's Buddhist faith. The view of Tsuen Wan skyline from the podium is amazing.

Although it is a little way from Hong Kong's main tourist areas, this is pretty easy to get to by train and then a short taxi ride. There is also a fleet of small local buses that come up the hill from the station but...More

Located adjacent to Yuen Yuen Institute, this sprawling temple complex is just as impressive as it’s Taoist temple neighbor. The collection of highly ornate buildings include pagodas, shrines/halls, temples, living quarters and more. There are numerous bridges and walkways that connect the buildings. There are...More

Such a beautiful monastery in the New Territories. Easiest way to get there is a taxi from Tsuen Wan station which is the end of the red line on the MTR. So nice to be somewhere that was clean air and quiet. If you have...More

This is a tranquil Buddhist monastery with lovely ornate buildings and relaxing settings. This is not far from the Yuen Yuen Institute but in my opinion far more interesting. Not very busy either so you can really take your time and enjoy the setting.

This is an ultra-modern monastery that is spotless and grand in equal measure. There are wonderful views over the valley as it is fairly high up overlooking Tsuen Wan. Buildings are externally striking and beautifully decorated inside but the best bits are the pools containing...More

The mountain where this is located, Tai Mo Shan (“big fog mountain” or “big hat mountain”), is the highest in Hong Kong and is also the home of the Hilltop Country Club and the Yuen Yuen Institute and other Buddhist places. It has a real...More

Known as a 'hidden treasure' this was apparently built in the 1970s and is much less known than other Buddhist Temples in Hong Kong such as Po Lin Monastery, meaning that you will be able to enjoy the ambience without finding yourself shuffling amongst crowds...More

Chances are - most of the people taking the minibus here are here to visit the Yuen Yuen Institute. The Western Monastery next door is much better. It is more peaceful with less people. While the inside is nothing to shout about, the buildings outside...More
