Neighbourhood: Tsim Sha Tsui
Tsim Sha Tsui is one of the major tourist and shopping areas of Hong Kong. With a high concentration of hotels, retail shops and commercial offices – it’s a busy and bustling neighbourhood that never sleeps. On the surface, Tsim Sha Tsui seems to only feature an abundant number of high-end retail stores selling designer brands and jewelry, owing to its popularity with high-budget shopping tours. However, it also contains a diverse range of attractions for the entire family. Whether taking a walk in Kowloon Park, exploring museums, going shopping or grabbing a bite to eat – Tsim Sha Tsui has something for everyone.

Not worth going as of 16th March 2024. It is undergoing renovations so nothing there right now except a few text heavy display boards although admission is free if you must.

Read good things about this but it's only a foyer that is open at the moment with billboards about the space race and an exhibit about communication. If I had known this I would not have bothered going here

The had a small exhibition about Chinese space exploration looked like the rest was under renovation so nothing about the history. The entrance was free but exhibition was nothing special, but right across is the science museum which is really good.

Most of the museum was closed for renovation. Nothing about the history of the people or place. what was left was a propaganda trip for the new rulers. very poor.

I love going to museums on trips. This museum is by far one of the best I've been to, it is top tier! I spent half a day there, learned so some.
They have actual rail cars, tea taverns and such that they strip from the original location and moved into the museum, these are not replicas! Which blew my mind. It's very interactive. I loved it and can't wait to go back when I make my next trip.

It’s nice but too small. I think it is being renovated currently so I will go back in the future once all the renovations are completed

I love museums of history, and this ranks among the top quartile. The collections and displays are fantastic, and many, are also very colourful. Very educational.

The Museum of History was opposite the Museum of Science, and very educational and informative. It was a great place to learn about the history and culture of Hong Kong. More importantly, the admission was free for everyone.

Learned a lot about Hong Kong history despite the temporary exhibition. Found it interesting and helpful, but looking forward to when the new exhibition is unveiled.

This was probably the tenth time I have visited Hong Kong museum of history. And these were some of my favorite scenes from here. Such a fun way to learn much more about the city’s past and how it was shaped over the centuries.

We stayed in Kowloon at the Hotel Icon, probably the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
If you stay in Kowloon near the Harbour or a Metro stop its pretty convenient for everywhere.

Should we use a private guide? Do you have guides that we can book if required? There are eight in our group and we would like to meet at the museum at 10 am, Jan 31, 2017. Thank you.

The museum have guided tours during the day that are free. We did one and it was very informative and better than reading the captions on the displays. You can get the details from their website.
I've just visited the museum website and wondering if the permanent exhibition is now closed for renovation or open regularly???

It's confusing a lot of people. The renovation is still at the planning stage.
The museum is business as usual. It still closes Tuesdays though.

We are planning to visit later this month and will be coming from the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel.
1) Is there currently a fee to enter the permanent exhibitions?
2) Can you recommend a way using the ferry?
Thanks!

We stayed at the Hotel Icon, so we just walked over.
Since you're staying near the airport, a cab ride would be around $200 HKD.
Uber is available at very competitive rates and most with very clean vehicles and very helpful and friendly drivers. We had used Uber extensively during our 2 week stay.
As for the museum, we were waved in at no charge! It was free to roam throughout the Permanent Exhibits.
There may be a very nominal $7 HKD fee for Special Exhibits. That's less than a US dollar.
The museum has a web site that will give you even more precise details.
Have fun!

May I know what is the easiest way from Auberge Discovery Bay Hotel to the Museum of History? Is it possible to take the 25mins ride ferry to Central and then a train to Museum?
Thanks!

Get off the MTR at Jordan AND walk EAST ON Austin road 3 long blocks. You will run into the corner of it. Now look for the front door entrance. Check this fact. Wednesday's are free then pay for the extra exhibit on Pompaiei.
Plan at least 3 hrs. Eat lunch inside. You will love the waiters in training. They are special needs girls AND boys. DON'T skip the gift shop. Take a picture on the " mosaic" steps which advertise the Pompan exhibit.

Hi, I wanted to ask about the tickets to the museums are there certain places that specialise in selling tickets sometimes with discounts and if there is which would you recommend or is it to better to book online?
Thank you :)

The museum is free on Wednesdays. On other days, just turn up and pay at the door. The museum is well worth the effort, although the catering in the cafe is very sub-standard. Plenty of other eateries a short walk away.
