I took this tour with MuBus and Michael was my group's guide. The whole experience was awesome and highly recommended, especially for first timers like me. Let me start with a short description of my experience and then move on to why this would be better than a DIY trip.
Michael texted and called me on WhatsApp the day before the trip and gave precise directions on the meetup. The meetup was on time and we set off on a full bus to the drop off point(MuBus office at the mutianyu tourist area(sort of a base camp with shuttle bus station, souvenir shops, ticket office etc. you can safekeep your luggage here and travel light for the actual climbing. lunch is available, to be purchased on the spot or could be part of your booking as was mine. Lunch was pretty good and then we set off at 12.30 and Michael explained that we should be back to the same spot latest by 5.20 when the bus back to city (Dongzhimen train station) took off. I took the airport shuttle from there, which was a quick 35 mins ride to airport which made it a super easy experience.
Weather was wonderful, the climbing was easy in the beginning, but got harder towards the end. But it's free and easy and you can easily pace yourself since there is plenty of time, assuming you take the cable cars, toboggans etc. which means you reserve all the energy and climbing efforts to the actual wall.
Why I suggest this over a DIY trip:
Comfortable. Convenient. Very reasonably priced, no touting.
I had done some prior research on a DIY trip and it seemed like a nightmare considering that you gotta worry about scams, twice changing buses, signage in Chinese, payment mode limitations (alipay/WeChat only) etc. and I decided to go with this tour which I booked through klook. (I think they work with all platforms like trip.com and traveloka etc.)

The tour was fantastic. We enjoyed the amazing view and the experience was incredible. We were picked up by bus in a meeting point, and during the trip to the Great Wall our guide Michael explained to us a little bit of the history about it. Then, we had a good buffet lunch and after that we started the adventure. First, we went up to the east side of the Great Wall and we went down by a Toboggan (super fun). Finally, we went to the west side by a cable car. Our guide helped us a lot through this experience.

It was a great experience from the beginning till the end, they are very on time with the meetings points, so don’t be late. The landscape from the Great Wall was beautiful, and the moments that you create there will be memorable, Don’t miss the chance to do it. Michael was our tour guide, very energetic and made the experience so enjoyable. I recommend you to take the toboggan, it was the funniest moment!

We had a pretty easy time taking the Mubus tour to Mutianyu Great Wall section. Here are the details in case it helps someone decide whether this tour is for them: We started by meeting at Dongzhimen station, and then took the Mubus coach (1 hour) to the start of the Mutianyu Great Wall section. On the coach, our guide Michael was very helpful, and helped everyone on board buy their Great Wall tickets + cable car / toboggan options. When we arrived we had lunch, which was as expected (buffet). Then we explored the two main routes along the Mutianyu Great Wall section on our own (self guided); definitely enough time to do both routes, if you’re fairly fit. Some parts are quite steep. Came back after that, and then coach back to Dongzhimen.

As first timer in Beijing and didnt speak any chinese languange at all, I found this trip arrangement extremely helpful. Michael (the tour leader) was very attentive and has a very good english, as well as flexible in making additional arrangements. The price offered for the tour was also so affordable. The tour start on time at gathering point in Beijing, then the bus went for a nice 1.5hrs trip to Mutianyu. During the trip, Michael explained about the history, and how you could enjoy the trip. If you want to, you can purchase add ons tickets like cable car, slideways, etc on the bus at the same price with the official ticket counter, so I highly recommend buying here and save your time (they accept cash and alipay). I recommend taking both East-West line (which will take a lovely 2-5 hrs) to maximize your experience.
Mutianyu itself is pretty place with great sceneries on your back. Upon welcoming at Mubus Family lounge, they will give you all tickets you need (well, your passport is actually your ticket except for slideway/chairlift where they will give you a paper ticket) and you will continue your trip using provided shuttle up. Drop off from the bus, go up and East line is on your right. I recommend taking chairlift up and tobbogan down for great experience. For a west line… go up to the cable car station and take a cable car up (you can walk too if you have time and energy) then continue exploring the west line. Oh btw the Mubus center also has an affordable F&B as well as souvenir.

Mubus organised our trip and our guide was called Michael. He was great. Texted the night before, everything was super clear, he was very entertaining on the coach there. The day couldn’t have been better. Look out for hidden costs though’

How far is wall from Bejing?

Hi, air quality in beijing is now at unhealthy level. Anyone has any idea how is the air quality at mutianyu great wall?

We were there in October. I had no idea air quality was an issue. Even Beijing around the Forbidden City seemed fine to me and when we went on the excursion to the Great Wall that was way away from the city and up in the mountains. Certainly nothing wrong with the air up there.
Olá, estarei indo para Pequim daqui um mês e gostaria de ir a muralha de ônibus, como vc fez? lembra de quanto gastou?
