Enjoyed our visit to Gubei Water Town, autumn colors looked magnificent and had fun strolling around, though man-made, it was still great. Made our way to Simatai Great Wall through cable car and enjoyed the ride, had a bit of problem walking on our way...More

Brilliant by day and night. This part of the wall is unrestored and there are steep steps with minimal safety features so you need to be very careful walking along the wall, but the crowds are so much less that we could take photos of...More

The Simatai area of the great wall was recommended by my local host, since it is not as crowded as other areas. After spending some days with billions of people in the forbidden city and the summer palace I felt the urge to escape from...More

Very much enjoyed the visit, and the cable car ride was spectacular. However we were a little disappointed at the limited range of towers we could walk to. Our group decided to drive onward to Jinshanling and found it much less crowded -- but also...More

Although it is less convenient to get to from Beijing than other parts of the Great Wall, the attraction of the Gubeikou water village at its foot and the combination of repaired and decaying wall remnants makes this a much richer touristic experience than going...More

Well worth the extra drive from Beijing. This segment of the wall wasn't crowded. The walk is at times steep, not overly reconstructed, but mostly well maintained. It's closed after about the 4th tower, but still a good walk with great views.

We took a tour bus from Beijing to this location. Very nice area to see the wall. There is a bit of a walk from the bus stop area and then a very steep walk up the wall to a place where you can come...More

Booked this tour through Niko of CHina highlights and was paired with Johnny as the tour guide. The day hike is great, in October it was warm, you'll need a beanie and a sweater at night as it gets cold and windy. The views are...More

Not at present. I wanted to watch the sunset but I just missed it as they closed just before sunset. You are allowed entrance for around 2-3 hours, They have time slotted entrances. They shut around 4.30/5pm.
