Fort Jesus is Mombasa’s most popular tourist attraction. The fort, located along the coastline near the Old Town, is a monumental piece of architecture that was built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. The fort has a museum that displays various artifacts from the era where Mombasa served as a transit point for the slave trade and commodities, and which enjoyed regular visits by seafarers and the like.

We spent 2 hours at the fort before heading to the train station back to Nairobi. Strongly recommended to make use of the authorized guides available outside the museum (they wear a special badge). There are three fee tiers. For tourists from outside Kenya and...More

The fort is the perfect place to learn about kenya. It is also a good starting point for a tour among the best shoos and bars in the old town

The fort Jesus area has a lot various street eats. Which deserves a mention but today I visited the Local chips fryer. A must do is to sample the Cassava, Banana and potato chips. My favorite is the cassava chips with lime and chili.

We made a stop at Fort Jesus while in Old Town. It costs 1,200 KSh to get in and there are “volunteers” that will want to share the history of the place with you for a small tip. It is worthwhile to let them show...More
