Once the cult center of Osiris, god of the dead, this was considered the holiest of Egyptian towns in Pharaonic times. Today this area contains the Cenotaph Temple of Seti I, one of the most intact temples remaining in Egypt that was built between 1294-1279 BC.

This is an amazing temple. Apparently, parts of it are 7000 years old. It took us about 4 hours from Luxor to get there - it was worth it. The road is excellent. For the last few miles, we were accompanied by a police vehicle...More

One of the longest rides(and the bumpiest) of the tour but totally worth it. Like all Egyptian temples the entrance was made to impress and even in ruins it was lovely. Tiny birds have made it their home and the remaining colors are impressive. It...More

Abydos is approx. 170km (3.5 hour drive) north of Luxor, the last 10k's is done by police escort (do not be concerned as this is standard procedure). This is where the Pharoh's pilgrimaged in life and after death. It has still some original colours from...More

We visited Abydos along with Dendera via private taxi as an all-day trip. At Abydos, the main attraction is the Temple of Seti I (c. 1290 BC), which he didn't live to complete (this was done by his son Ramesses II). The bits Ramesses II...More

The temple of Seti 1 at Abydos is generally regarded as having the best carvings of all the temples and monuments of Egypt. It is not easy to get to (a 3 hour car trip from Luxor), but well worth it. The painting is well...More

Came to Abydos with Hager from Memphis Tours, on a private trip. Hager made the trip special with her informative expertise. Even without a guide this is a serene place, sunlight coming in beams through the roof, the great columns and solid walls covered with...More
