Its difficult to see this as an Independence Square. However, this is an area where there are some attractive buildings, which make this a nice area to walk through rather than an iconic square.

This is one of those unavoidable places if you visit Parbo. Most of the city's attractions are around this Square. We loved the stroll along the river ad the Dutch style buildings. Also saw some staff looking after the stray dogs near the parliament house...More

The square is nothing much, but the streets around it has some wonderful old Dutch colonial houses in good shape. It's hot so try and visit early in the morning or on Sunday morning when there is no traffic.

Before independence in 1975 the 'Onafhankeliijksplein' was called by the Dutch the 'Gouvernementsplein'. The big open square is surrounded by the country's most important buildings: the Presidential Palace - all in white, the Parliament (De Nationale Assemblee) - a modern construction and the Ministry of...More

a simple square with lots of history. it is surrounded by the presidential palace and other historical buildings in a area that is on the unesco heritage list. The square itself is used at special occasions

This square near the Parliament is of historical value. It is a place where everyone gathers for either festivals or where the locals show of their beautifull singing birds. Great for photographers and nearby the city center and Waterkant.
