Around 600 Jewish families became plantation owners in the area called the Jodensavanne, 50 kilometers upriver from Paramaribo. The area is now an historical site. There is a small museum with a lot of interesting photographs.

Wonderful historical place. - I recomend that every Jewish person visiting Suriname must visit this beautiful place and say a "Kaddish" !!

After reading the book How expensive was the sugar I really enjoyed visiting Joden Savanne. Our guide was excellent but we missed the tour by Cynthia McLeod by a day which was a pity

Although it's a place of huge historical value, I must admit I was a little disappointed visiting Jodensavanne. There wasn't much left to see except two graveyards and some bricks that belonged to the synagoge. It's a place I wouldn't have want to have missed...More
