A landmark in downtown Asunción is the National Pantheon ('Panteón' in Spanish), where the country's so-called 'heroes', often just important politicians like the two Lopez or Estigarribia, have found their final resting place,. The building, designed by an Italian architect, was started in 1863 but...More

It’s basically a small mausoleum where you’ll find the graves of the first Paraguayan presidents. It’s a beautiful structure which u can’t avoid as it’s right in the middle of town. Worth seeing inside and out, but keep in mind it’s tiny. Worth reading the...More

I used to visit the Panteón Naconal de los Héroes when I traveled to Asunción on business various times in the 1990s. I went back with wife, brother, and sister-in-law to show them this impressive national shrine, but was disappointed to learn that it had...More

A nice structure suffering from poor upkeep and little pride. Don't be surprised to notice one or more of the honor guard's shirt tail hanging out. About ten minutes in the one room of busts and flags is plenty to a lot. Truly a sad...More

This is one of the most beautiful buildings in Asuncion. A classic building that is in great condition unlike many of the buildings in the old downtown. Right on the park, it is a great addition to the city.

One of Asuncion's few "must see" sights, sadly, the Pantheon is undergoing major reconstruction and is completely closed off to the public. Judging by the building site, it may be closed for considerable time to come. You can still get reasonable views of the dome...More

We were keen to visit this building, but the renovations go on and there was little to see or photograph. It contains the bodies of many Paraguayan heroes and many other interesting architects. when it reopens is definitely worth a visit.

There is no entry and only a small portion of the architecture is visible from outside due to the refurbishment it is currently undergoing.

The building is an oratory of Virgin St Mary of Asuncion, tries to be a replica of Les Invalides Paris, but there are several tombs of national paraguayan heroes of their independence. It is free, open during the day and... More
