We visit there with my family. It is one of the most colorful places in Abu Dhabi. Even if you don`t like see producsts but you want see Eastern Market, want bargain for the price and see another Abu Dhabi visit here. We buy 2 fishes (to be honestly can`t remember names) and the price was 90 dirhams for both. But we bargain and pay for it 70 dirhams. Very nice place.

Highly recommend

We took our 7 and 9 year old sons and they loved it. It’s really well organised and clean. Good toilets also! Make sure you take cash as it’s cash only. You can get your purchases cleaned to take home or take it to a restaurant in the market. We went to Gandofly where the tiger prawns we bought were prepared in the most delicious way. Would definitely go again.

Area is still under construction, so no much to see around the fish market itself. Inside this is a constant harassment by fish vendors and restaurants owners. This harassment lead us to leave the market without spending more than 15 minutes inside. Abu Dhabi municipality should implement policy to allow visitors and buyers to be let alone.

I spent 30 minutes walking and admiring the variety of fresh fish available. the market is so clean & hygienic , the stall holders are very courteous , friendly , good English spoken with advice about purchasing the fish then taking it to a restaurant located close by for cooking. To one side there is a glass screen where to see fish being scaled , filleted and packed for customers , what a great service, well worth the visit.

As already written on this site, the site is newly renovated, very clean, air-conditioned, etc. I'll only add that, as of writing (late Oct-early Nov 2022), the whole area surrounding the fish market is being rebuilt so there are high white construction partitions blocking views of the sea and dhow harbour which spoils the experience of visiting the market. It's fine if you're only there for a fresh seafood meal but don't expect any 'ambiance'.....and that's in addition to the place being a modern construction in a warehouse/commercial area of the city so there's no old world charm either
Also, for those using public transport and/or taxis (without the Dubai Taxi App): at certain times of the day you might have to wait longer than is usual in the UAE for an empty taxi to come by.

A great place to watch what types of seafood is available fresh at the Gulf. Huge competition, nice photo opportunities and very reasonable and surprising prices. You can buy and let them clean for you at a dedicated place, or just bring it to one of the restaurants and they will cook it for you - you can either take it out or eat at the same restaurant (they will charge for the cooking and sitting). All in all prices are surprisingly reasonable and the experience is great. Oh, and it is super clean and modern.

Although the food was edible, it was not particularly impressive. Despite the many restaurants in the area, the staff were actively encouraging us to dine at their establishment, but once we were seated, they appeared disinterested. Unfortunately, it took an excessive amount of time for our order to be taken, and when our starters were served, two out of three were incorrect, but we chose to keep them. Regrettably, the main dish was not up to our expectations, as the fried calamari were overcooked. All things considered, I do not intend to return to this restaurant.

The time I have visited the new building was still closed, I skipped my breakfast and went shopping for fresh seefood. One of the highlights of my trip, you can go to any of the restaurants and they will cook it for you. Absolutly delicious.

Wonderful experience to end our stay in Abu Dhabi. Fabulous fresh fish, which you buy and then have prepared and cooked for you at one of the surrounding restaurants. A very authentic experience, far surpassing eating in the tourist restaurants.

First of all I have to say our experience here at this fish market today was amazing. My wife and I eat sea food all the time, but this was the best - ever! Today we went at 4:30 for dinner which, by the time we walked around, chose our fish, had it cooked and ate, was served at 5:30.
But be very careful. You get pressured all the time by the 50 or so fish sellers, and some of it is NOT fresh.
You can haggle the price, at least a little, and we had agreed the price for 1 kg of tiger prawns at 35 Dirham. So first tip, find out what things cost in Carrefour, and make sure you beat their prices. Or try at least 2 or 3 stalls to compare prices. If you buy all your fish and shellfish from one stall, pick a lower price and stick to your guns, and the price drops a little more.
Luckily my wife asked to smell the prawns at 35 Dirham. The vendor picked one up and passed it to her to smell. It was fine, but she also smelled the bag with the prawns and it was awful. I am sure if we had not done so we would have had food poisoning. Tip number 2 - don't smell the one prawn, smell the whole bag before parting with your money.
Tip 3, look the fish in the eye. If it is cloudy, then it is not fresh. Several stalls were selling what I assume was yesterdays catch - and they knew it as when we said we want clear eyes, they looked at each other and nodded.
Everything is sold by the Kg, and if you ask the price of a fish they tell you, for a small fish, it is, say 10 Dirham, which it will be for one fish. However, if the fish is large they might say 60 Dirham, which is the price per kilo, not the price for the fish which might be much bigger. We asked for the price of the fish, then haggled it down from 95 to 80 Dirham. So tip 4 - get the price per kilo to compare prices, but get the price for the whole fish before agreeing to buy it.
Now onto cooking. This is where the price can shoot up. The men in red clean and prepare the fish for you for about 10 Dirham per kilo. Then you have to pay someone to cook it, and if you want to eat in one of the café / restaurants, you pay a fee for the use of the table.
If the weather is cool enough, you could save money by getting it cooked and eating outside.
If you are self catering, get the men in red to clean it and take it home to cook.
Otherwise, and this is what we did, take it to be cleaned and cooked by those near the exits who are affiliated with a restaurant. We had our 1.5 kg fish, kg of prawns, kg of crab, and kg of clams all cleaned and cooked for 60 Dirham, and paid 25 Dirham to eat it in the restaurant. The restaurant gave us plates, cutlery, napkins, disposable gloves, and as much time as we needed, and drinks were dirt cheap too (bottle of water 2.5 Dirham).
The experience was worth the visit on its own, but the taste of the food was out of this world.
Last tip - Do not miss this if you ever visit Abu Dhabi.
