- Autumn L3 contributionsAmazing free guided tour from MahmoudI visited last Thursday and attended the free guided tour at 10AM. Myself and husband were the only ones who joined the tour so we ended up receiving a private tour of the mosque from Mahmoud. Mahmoud was very professional and friendly throughout the visit. He drew our attention to so many of the beautiful elements of the mosque, enlightening us with his vast knowledge of the architecture and history of it. He was also able to answer all questions of the many questions we had. I would highly recommend visiting the beautiful Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and joining one of the free guided tours. Mahmoud was a great tour guide and a real credit to the mosque.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 September 2023
- George P1 contributionIncredible private tourWe were lucky enough to join a free 10am tour with Mahmoud where somehow no one else joined so myself and my partner had an entirely private tour of the Mosque. Mahmoud was extremely friendly and knowledgable and he truly made the experience remarkable. Highly recommend the free guided tours and visiting such an outstanding and important piece of the culture in the UAE. Thank you Mahmoud!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 September 2023
- thomasany77London, United Kingdom29 contributionsA Majestic Must-VisitOur visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in August 2023 was nothing short of awe-inspiring. Stepping into the mosque felt like entering a world of pure serenity and architectural marvel. The grandeur of its design and the intricate details left us in absolute wonder. The cleanliness and organization of the premises were exemplary, ensuring a peaceful and respectful atmosphere for all visitors. Our visit was a humbling and spiritually enriching experience, and it's a must-visit for anyone traveling to Abu Dhabi. This mosque is a true testament to human creativity and devotion.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 September 2023
- Rakesh S3 contributionsAmazing experienceVisited the Sheikh Zayed Mosque recently. It is undoubtedly one of the architectural marvels of the world. Been to this wonderful place a few times in the last 15 years. Special thanks to Ms Zainab who took us on a free, guided cultural tour. We were provided with some interesting insights to the design of the Grand Mosque and local culture. A must see for any visitors to the UAE.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 October 2023
- Flower53_10Tbilisi, Georgia1,764 contributionsBeautiful mosque, but…There is no doubt that Sheikh Zayed mosque is a masterpiece of a modern architecture, with white marble, beautiful mosaics, picturesque domes, beautiful lamps, carpets, etc. and it is definitely the highlight of UAE. So in total would say it is not to miss place and for sure is a number one attraction here. However prior to your visit bear in mind, that the staff was pretty strict, I was wearing long dress, covering almost everything, but I still had to buy abaya ( of a very bad quality but high price) , as you cannot borrow or even rent one anymore. However I seen people dressed less modestly compared to me but they did not have to buy abaya ( I guess they still differentiate between Muslims and non Muslims and way stricter with non Muslims, which I do not understand why, but that is how it is… Another thing , it is a very busy place, here you feel like you are in the airport with check point, security, crowds of people…. There are plenty of overpriced shops, restaurants in the whole complex, so do not know why they made a religious place like that, but OK. All in all it is still hard to miss this place and it is worth a visit.Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 October 2023
- Oscar NMexico City, Mexico3 contributionsAstonishing religious place. Free tours are offered inside the mosque.Amazing place to visit. This religious site is impressive full of beauty everywhere you see. The government offers free tours inside the mosque and it is a must to take it. Our guide Raneen was very kind and answers all of our questions! Look for her in the tours.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 October 2023
- lightoller17 contributionsCultural tripWas not gonna go at all but we were recommended and we are so glad we took their advice as we loved it. It is truly beautiful and mesmerising. Photos really don’t do it justice you really have to be there to experience the culture and history. I really recommend that you wait for a guided tour that takes place every hour which will make it all more understandable.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 October 2023
- Emma K9 contributionsStunning craftmanship in a Stunning building!Go late afternoon,as you can see the striking pure whiteness change as the sunsets and the building is then lit up magnificently. It is beautiful. Catch a tour ( every hour ) The lady was very informative and we got taken into the Mosque from the other side, away from the main queue of people. The whole place is stunning. Make sure your dressed respectfully (arms and legs covered and head scarfs for the ladies) The only minus is it's a shame you have to walk though a mini shopping mall to get to the entrance. But still, somewhere should experience on a trip to this city.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 October 2023
- Alvaro L347 contributionsMonumental architecture; too bad you have to go through a mall to get to it.The mosque is absolutely beautiful. It is impressive anywhere you look from the inmense italian marble floor to the outstanding craftsmanship of the chandeliers. One thing that could be improved is the access. You have to go to one side of the shopping mall to get the access pass and then walk to the other side to get into the mosque.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 November 2023

This is a place of worship but also seems to be a place made to impress? We recommend to order a ticket online since it can be crowded, and they are very strict with the dress code especially for women so be aware.
We were not so impressed by this building, it felt a bit artificial, just put there to make an impression, not as many old fantastic places around the world. There are no fee to enter.

I did the 8 pm 30 minute tour in English. We were about 14 in the group and our tour guide was Mouza Al Mansoori. Mouza was very well spoken and knowledgeable about the facts regarding construction of the mosque. I preferred going in the evening because I caught the sunset view of the mosque across the road at the Wahat Al Karama, then walked to the mosque (about 15 minutes) to do a walk around on my own before joining the tour. By the time the tour started at 8 pm, most of the crowd had subsided, which made the experience all the more pleasant.

They have reorganised things recently with a new entrance system but it all seeemed to work very smoothly and despite the crowds it didn’t feel too crowded. We arrived for dusk, don’t cut it too fine because the ladies have to get dressed in the gown they provide and it is a long way from there to the Mosque but they have a system of travel actors and a free electric buggy taxi to convey those who don’t want to walk. The building is stunning with some great craftsmanship and whilst artistically I have seen more impressive detail in Europe and Russia the sheer scale of this place is truly impressive especially when it is dark enough to appreciate the reflecting pools. Certainly a Wow place. Highly recommended there is also a nice shopping malls linking it to the car par park.

The Mosque have all the clothes needed for women to wear inside the Mosque for free. Entrees are free and even the hourly tour inside the Mosque is for free.
Taxi are very cheap in Abu Dhabi and we did the trip for 5 persons for around 40 AED from downtown Abu Dhabi.
We used around 1,5 hour at the Mosque.
Nice architecture and a must see tourist attraction.
Don’t spend money on the tour companies. It’s not worth the money in this case.

Please avoid the beautiful building which we tried to visit twice. The management system of visitors do not work at all. After queuing for more than two hours in the sun, we decided to leave after one of the officials informed us that it would take another two to three hours to buy a ticket. On none of the websites I consulted before we went there, informed me that tickets can be bought online, but even with the online tickets visitors hat to queue more than two hours. The only people that do get in without any problems are official tours with their guides. I would have love to see this building but the way the officials treated visitors were shocking and disgraceful. Do not bother to go on your own.

4th largest mosque in the world that can accommodate 40,000 worshippers at any one time (the world’s largest mosque in Saudi can hold 2mil!).
120,000 sqm of white marble and all those pillars of flowers made of specially cut precious shells and gems, including Mother of Pearl. Gigantic German-made Chandeliers made of Swarovski crystals from Austria. Largest carpet made by 1,200 Iranian women (which ironically was cut into pieces later in order to be transported here and put together again *cue roll eyes*).
And how can we forget the gold, be it gold plated or gold paint for that added glow.
We were dropped off at a car park opposite the mosque and had to walk thru a shopping mall’s underground, thru a security screening point to get to the mosque.
They are very strict with dress code here, especially for women. Must be covered head to toes, long sleeves covering till the wrist, long dress or pants covering till the ankles and a scarf to cover the hair and neck. The guide provides Abayas for the women if you are not appropriately dressed. As we walked around the mosque, we saw many others in a common red ‘gown’ too, I suppose that’s the one you can rent from the mosque if you were visiting on your own sans tour guide.
The mosque marked out designated photo areas so we weren’t allowed to roam freely. Which is good too, gave us the opportunity to take a clean picture of the mosque from different angles. It was a good thing we joined a group tour so we could zip by some queues on an express track. Spent about an hour here before we left.

There is no doubt that this is one of the most beautiful Mosques in existence. There are vast expanses of crisp white marble, some with intricate coloured inlays, displaying adept craftsmanship and internally in the prayer hall/chamber) ceilings are adorned with ornate painting and magnificent chandeliers.
Externally, as the sun sets, various colours of dusk glance across the marble facade, mixing with the subtle spotlighting, which creates a magical effect.
Do not be put off by the seemingly interminable underground walk and levels of security you have to pass through, it is well worth it and it does keep moving. Do check access beforehand if you need to.

We visited last week, long queues to get through into the underground souk and cafe area which you are forced through, then another long queue to get tickets to get into the mosque.
Once in the barriers you are pushed along like animals and have to follow the queue, with children in pushchairs, disabled people in wheelchairs, all pushing for a space. Can’t really sto and have a good look. Not really allowed into the mosque only the outer courtyard.
We thought we might sit in rage gardens on a bench a contemplate. for 10 minutes. NO not allowed got moved on back into the queue and out.
So very disappointed by this experience seems it is a tourist attraction peace and not really a proper mosque.
Not worth the waiting in the queues for this.
Will not be doing it again.
Better from a distance especially when lit up at night.

I loved visiting the Mosque. It was overwhelmingly beautiful and worth “dressing up” for. We did the tour and Fatima did a great job with the narration. The tour took 40 minutes and is the best way to see the mosque as you get to go inside the great hall - which is a must. If you are not on a tour you don’t get to see this. Now for some tips:
1. Get your free tickets on line before hand. They are free. Hold your on line ticket print out in you hand so the guard knows from a distance that you have already got your ticket.
2. Dress respectively. Women to have a long ankle dress or trousers, arms fully covered and a scarf. Men to have long sleeve collared shirt and long trousers. Do this and you will jump the queue.
3. Keep I small groups. Max 4. We were only two, and we saved say 30 minutes queuing. We kept getting the VIP treatment which I can only assume is because of a small group, correctly dressed and had our tickets in our hands.
4. If your tour starts at 5pm, get there no later than 45 minutes minimum before hand otherwise you will miss the tour. Our tour was in English.
5. The walk from the entrance to the mosque is underground but it is say at least 1 kilometres in distance. There are golf carts available for the elderly or disabled.
6. Plan your visit just before Sunset. The lights at night at stunning
7. Budget on say 90 minutes for the entire experience.
This is a great tour.

When we visited, there were long queues, and we had to walk a long distance, which tires one mentally,if not physically.
The mosque itself is a grand ,unparalled to anything I have seen till now.
One must wear modest dress,or else you are made to wear dress provided there.
The rules for dressing and conduct and photography are quite strict, reinforced by the security guards at every corner.
One must visit this mosque, but preferably at a date and time when it is not too crowded.

Hello, does the mosque still provide head scarfs for free? If not, is a head covering like the one in my profile pic okay? (sorry I cannot upload images)

I am not sure if they provide for free, it seems that they dont and I dont recommend you to buy one there as it is very expensive. But that one in your photo works fine.

Yes you can bring young children to this mosque I saw a few there on my visit. It is advisable to try and keep them as entertained as possible so as not to be loud and disturb others. Hope you have a great trip.

Ой, вам, наверное, уже неактуально… теоретически выдают, ибо на выходе мы видели, куда из сдавать, но мы не нашли где, а персонал не признается…

Seems they do no longer rent them out. However, you can purchase some near the entrance to the mall.
