I’m sure some portion of Mr. Baidun’s collection is authentic. But, what he sold me as Late Period Egyptian horse statuette was appraised as a worthless soapstone trinket. I am ashamed to say I paid over $1k for this worthless item. His “certificate of authenticity “ is a handwritten note with no provenance or other documentation— a red flag I ignored. He will show you a book of letters and notes in order to build trust that he is legit. I was taken by him being featured in many National Geographic’s. At the end of the day, this is a scam. If you are going to buy from him either be an expert in the types of items you are buying, or be accompanied by such an expert. Khader if you are reading this take my letter out of your book, I don’t want to assist in your con.

My daughter loved visiting this shop while in Jerusalem. My husband and I were out sightseeing at that time and missed the chance to see the shop. However there were some items I was interested in. I e-mailed the shop from home. Rami and Khader were fabulous. They sent the items, which turned out better than I expected. I am very pleased with the service of this shop. My only regret is that I did not have the time to visit the shop in person. Next time I am in Jerusalem, I definitely will visit the shop.

We made the mistake to wander around in the old town of Jerusalem ( via Dolorosa)and enter the shop of mr Baidun. We were welcomed very friendly, enthusiast and personally ( and persuasive to). He started to show us all his artefacts and at the same time credentials from him and his father ( Arabic National Geographic and books in which they were mentioned) . By doing so he created an atmosphere that the family business was trustworthy. He mentioned that Israel is the only country that it has no export restrictions on archeological artefacts and that this was an unique opportunity to buy. Before we knew it he had pushed us in buying an amphora and a bowl which were supposed to be over two thousand years old . ( for a lot of money) later I discovered that a lot he said was not completely true. For instance that you could do c14 research on pottery and determine the age but that is only possible for organic items. He could not prove the origin of the artefacts or tell the history of the artefacts. We had already payed by credit card and when we wanted to cancel the transaction a day later this was not possible. He kept denying that we were misled and became agitated. I am pretty sure I bought replicas for a lot of money and feel stupid. He is socially very clever , not to be trusted and I worn you for him .

You will be greeted by a familiar routine: the proprietor will bring out tonnes of laudatory prints of him but none of these actually verify the authenticity of the antiquities. I was shown his stashes of collection and am mortified that he has boxes and boxes of 'antiques' which look like replicas of the same thing. He will issue Certificates of Authenticity but what's what everyone does in the old city. Add to that is the rudeness of Mr Baidun, he actually snatched away the item when I was enquiring about it. Horrible service with dubious antiquities.. proceed with caution!

This is an exceptional, unique shop on a par with some top galleries I have visited. The Owner was on hand to show me his large collection of pottery, roman, Jewish, byzantine, ancient era coins, sculpture, weapons and tools. Almost every notable period is represented at the store including Caananite, Byzantine, Roman, Israelite, Greek, Medieval and others.

I was really amazed by the selection on hand and quality of the items.

The Owner was able to answer all my questions thoroughly.

The Store is located right on the historic Via Dolorosa.

I got a beautiful, ancient coin commemmorating the Masada Revolt.

One of my all time favorite stores with loads of history and personality.

There is enough history at this Store to fulfill a College ancient history course!

Fascinating and alot of fun.

I have come to know the Baidun family over the past several years. It is disappointing to hear of a a bad sales experience. The family has honed its marketing skills over the years, but with a strong commitment to preserving antiquities of the Levant for generations to come. The gallery is recognized as one of the premiere antiquities shops in Jerusalem, with write-ups in publications including National Geographic.
As with purchase of art or other collectibles of value, due diligence by the buyer is important. Ask the questions that need to be asked, proceed only when 100% satisfied and when all necessary paperwork is complete.
In my case, I obtained informal authentication confirmation of items purchased from knowledgeable parties in the U.S.
My personal visits to the shop predate December 2018, though I have had subsequent contact with the Baiduns this past year.

Two words: Stay away? FAR away! They will pressure you into buying cheesy antiquities. They will overcharge you for them, Then they will have another merchant complete the transaction. And though their website says they accept returns withIn 10 days, they make it IMPOSSIBLE to do so. (Using another party to run your credit card makes it impossible to dispute the charge with your credit card company.) To top it off, if you try to return something, the owner will curse you out in several languages. NEedless to say, I would rate this place a zero if I could. I've bought from merchants on every continent, but he is the worst one I've ever met.

My personal friend, an archaeologist, has known and worked with Rami Baidun and his father for many decades. Mr. Baidun is passionate and knowledgable about his collection. I treasure my visit to his shop and re-enjoy the visit whenever I touch and gaze upon what are now my treasures.
