The place where Jesus prayed just before his arrest. Many of the olive trees are so old that they would have been there at the time, making it so much more evocative. However there is not much left of it because, like almost all the biblical sites. someone has built a dirty great (and not very tasteful) church on it.

We visited on a pilgrimage as did lots of other people. So, we walked around the perimeter of the garden, a collection of olive trees, some very old, in single file and briefly stopped for pictures. The interior of the garden is off-limits. If you are an amateur photographer, expect to have crowds and only a few minutes to grab shots. My advice: travel light with a pocket camera or a DSRL with a zoom lens, take a lot of pictures and expect to delete the bad ones later. There is not much contrast in the trees and their leaves. Post-processing for contrast may be needed.

Worth a visit on the way up the mount of olives. The garden is well maintained and not trashed which I appreciated. Looks just like you would imagine! There are several can drivers at the entrance that will drive up to the lookout for pretty reasonable amounts. I paid 50 shekels for my group of 3 top to bottom with a short visit at the top for some pictures.

The garden is full of very old olive trees, some around at the time of Jesus. They are amazing to see. It’s a nice place which feels calm and tranquil and you feel like you have gone back in time.

The olive trees in the garden give you a peaceful place of prayer. To see a tree over 2000 years old or as our guide says at least 2034 years reminds you of a firm foundation. God supplies all we need to succeed and be fruitful.

Warning that there's a fake tour guide pretending to be so sweet and helpful, almost forcing his services onto you and will try to sell you something like tour guide book etc. Do not accept anything!! Unless you are happy to be taken for a ride. Unfortunately this man spoiled our entire experience at a place that is meant to be so special and sacred. The actual gardens were beautiful and peaceful.

This is the garden where Jesus Christ prayed prior to his trial and execution. Although it must be dramatically different now than in Jesus’ day it still brings one to silence when one considers what occurred here. The olive trees are incredible thick and old. People are no longer allowed to wander through the trees/garden. You must view them from the outside.

This place is what you make of it. If you do not understand it's Christian significance it is just a walled garden with a few olive trees. There is no shade as such and I didn't see a place to sit but the Church next door is a wonderful space to complete any contemplation / prayer. It is free to visit and gives the visitor a unique understanding of its location to the city.

Regardless of where Jesus’ tomb actually was, the Garden Tomb visually and emotionally matches the scriptural depiction of the true garden tomb. Our host shared the history of the two main sites, the different reactions to it and the big picture of what the tomb means to life. We really appreciated our host, whose name was Caesar.

This humble garden resonates with Christians. The Garden of Gethsemane is the place where Jesus went through the agony of betrayal and suffering the night before he was arrested. The next day, Jesus was crucified, dead and buried, before his resurrection. All four Gospels agree on Jesus' suffering and fate. The Garden of Gethsemane is at the base of the Mount of Olives.

I would like to join this tour on Dec 29th. But I will be in Jerusalem already. How do I join the tour in Jerusalem?

if you plan to visit Jerusalem all you need is a map! All things are close, for example from lions gate to ghetsimani garden you need to walk less than 10 minutes. i also recommend to use public transport because us very cheap, they have a card and you need to fill it with a daily pass wich is around 13 shekels aprox 4 dolars and you can change bus and trams with this. When you buy something from old city, negotiate first! The prices can decrease in some cases with 40%😉

Hello. I took a picture of the operating hours at their door. Summer ( April - Sept ) from 8am -6pm. Winter ( Oct - March ) 8am-5pm. We went there during early hours to avoid the crowds.

How close can I get to the rock Jesus prayed right before his arrest?
What times and days is the garden open?

I visited the Garden of gethsemane with a daily tour - 8 hours walking from the Mount of olives, along all the holly places, along Via dolorosa, time off for lunch in a nice armenian restaurant and the tour end at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. I did this walk with The Bain Harim Tourism - highly recommende. Enjoy your stay in Jeruzalem.

How close will I be able to come to the rock where Jesus prayed? This is the holiest moment of the Bible for me and I would like to make this visit in Sept. very special. What arrangements can I make?

At one time one of the Olive trees in the Garden, was considered to be as old as the times of Jesus. Later, carbon dating showed that it was less than 1000 yrs old. So it did not belong to the time of Jesus. The exact spot or rock cannot be determined after more than 2000 years and the history of so many wars in that land. Some purport a specific rock, but there is no real proof for it. There is no question, however, that the Garden of Gaths-amin is the same place that Jesus prayed. So any place in that Garden, a place of quiet, to reflect on the agony the Messiah hesitated to undertake, but undertook nevertheless is good enough. And use that moment to submit in obedience to God to make those difficult decisions that are contrary to your own will.

It is religious site. No charge for entry. Only some postcard sellers outside. Like all churches there will be a donation box if you wish to leave something.
