Orthodox Christians certainly have to visit the Mount of Olives, from where Jesus ascended! There are also a few Orthodox Monasteries & Churches, very important Biblically! The Mount of Olives Hotel makes perfect sense for your stay while there! xo~A

This mountaintop, gorgeous in its simplicity, provides an astonishingly beautiful sight of Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. It's an incredibly significant site for several religious and carries an aura of specialness to it, so that one can merely stand here and take in some of that spirituality. It's also a holy Jewish cemetery, having housed thousands of important people over the centuries. Don't rush through your experience here.

This is your first stop when visiting the old town of Jerusalem. The overlook is above the ancient cemetery, one of the oldest in the world. People interred here are thought to be first in line when Christ returns and leads folks into heaven. Quite a dramatic scene and very moving knowing you will be treading on holy ground. Nice introduction by our guide before driving down to the walled town.

The Mount of Olives. It conjures up pictures in our hearts and minds of Jesus praying and the disciples sleeping on that fateful Thursday. The Mount offers a view of the Old City that orients you to what you will see there.
As you look at the graves of Christians, Muslims, and Jews you are reminded what an international and interreligious city Jerusalem is.

You get very good views over Jerusalem temple mount from the top of the mt of olives. There are many churches here free to enter, but many close for lunch. You get a good view from the promenade outside the 7 arches hotel. There are also many taxis offering to give your tours of the area or drive you to the top.

What a view this was as the first stop for the start of our day. Wind and rain for this day, along with cold.

This place has been mentioned thru history for thousands of years.
It's a nice mountain, with nice views all around.
There are a few areas that you can park around and even do some shopping of local street sellers.

This is located outside the Old City of Jerusalem and is possible to go by foot even though it is not that near. This is a Jewish cemetery which is still in use and is a must see when in the city. The many coffins here is a sight to behold.

Nearly all tours and pilgrimages start from this spot because it affords an overview of the Old Town and the Kidron Valley with the Jewish Cemetery. For the amateur photographer, expect a few crowds during the day, but there is room to spread out and get the pictures. Do not forget to zoom and capture the cemetery below. Also the domes of the nearby Orthodox church are in view. A DSLR with a zoom lens oriented to scenic photography works well. Note: there is a fifteen minute walk available from the viewpoint down to the Garden of Gethsemane, but it is steep.

Can you walk to the Mount of Olives from the Old City?

Yes. It may look far but actually very well doable. Take eg the Lion gate, go to Getsemaneh and directly behind Getsemaneh on the right hand side a road goes straight up to Mt Olive with the fantastic views.

We will be in Jerusalem on Sat., Dec. 22, 2018, and need an early morning tour of the Mount of Olives site. Most tours appear to be in afternoon. Can anyone please suggest an early morning tour. Thanks!

Is there a public bus that will take us from the Dung Gate or Zion Gate to the Mount of Olives observation point or close to it.
We (4 adults) will be doing traveling on Tuesday after 12 or Wednesday morning.

There's a bus from the Damascus Gate at the Sultan Soliman bus terminus which goes up to the Church of Ascension/Mount of Olives.
Bob and I are in our late 50's and will be visiting Jerusalem for the first time in late October/early November of this year. We both have always wanted to visit the Holy Land! We were hoping to be able to renew our marriage vows somewhere in or around close to Jerusalem (Mount of Olives, or elsewhere). Bob is Jewish and I am Catholic. This might be difficult given our mixed faith situation. We did not want to do this at Cana (many seem to want this location). We have been in contact with a Messianic Rabbi who will perform a ceremony for us. Since a Church or synagogue is out of the question in Jerusalem, we were wondering about having the ceremony in a public location. Is this possible, given our situation? There would only be the Rabbi, Bob and I, and two witnesses present. Are there Holy sites where this could take place without causing disruption or controversy? We would be grateful for any information or suggestions you may have!
God Bless you for your help.

Here's a suggestion: Contact the folks at The Garden Tomb and ask if it would be possible. It is a very serene peaceful location operated by a non profit group and may well be the location of Christ's burial. Look up this location on the web and yoiu will see many pictures and get a feel for the place and get contact info. I was just there last month.
