Galatasaray tram was taking people between Karakoy tunnel and Taksim square in the past. After long years of non-functioning the trams started to serve approximately 15 years ago. However it lost its gem due to the terrible renovation of the street and modernization of the...More

We walked from the Tunel up Istiklal Caddesi to Taksim Square and took the Tram back. Whilst you may have to wait and queue, it is fun. One seat each side with lots standing but a piece of history. You will need a loaded Istanbulkart...More

When you in Galata, you need to make this ride. Tram runs from Taksim to Tunel through the shopping street very slowly. You turn back time how local transportation was when these trams were all over town. Tram runs day time, not at night.

Was disappointed to note that this tram does not exist - we believe it is being renovated. Was looking forward to seeing it since it is one if Istanbul's most notable and iconic attractions.

It is fascinating to read some very recent reviews praising this tram because we were there last week and it hasn't been there for some considerable time. The track has been taken up and filled in with a rough patchwork of concrete, tarmac and broken...More

Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal
Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night
and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights,
shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of
people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive
Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of
the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned
restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening
