Cheap and lively night market
Feb 2021
Generally it is a night market under the proper market building, housing range of foods and fruits. Food price are cheap and have a lot of variety from local dishes to snacks. There also several tables where you can have your meal.

Inexpensive food, fun look at local life

Gadong Night Market and the adjoining mall are major hangouts for people in BSB in the evening and very busy. This is like other night markets in SE Asia, but don't expect it to be quite as big...the whole thing is in one large cement space. Everything is inexpensive...1-2 Brunei Dollars per item. A lot of the focus is on barbecued meat and lots and lots of fried snacks. There are some other options like fresh noodles or westernized food and some fresh fruit/vegetables as well. There are table all around the market, and you can fill up for a meal very cheap here. Be careful what you wear - because of the barbeque the whole place fills with a lot of smoke and everything will end up smelling like this after.

You could also walk next door to the big mall.

If you want to sample local and cheap food this is the place to visit. The market is full of local foods some being cooked on the spot. 3 of us went and ate to our hearts content and only spent B$30, including 2 durians. Just a word of warning . Most food is fried in deep oil, so if you are a health freek this is not for you. There are tables where you can sit and enjoy not only your food but the hustle and bustle of the market. A little smokey as I thought the extractors were overlooked. Take some wet wipes to clean your hands afterwards . You can easily spend 2-3 hrs there .

Bustling, smoky, spoilt for choice - loved it!

During our stay in Bandar Seri Begawan the Gadong Night Market became our go to place whenever we craved local cuisine for dinner.
Located within walking distance from The Mall Gadong and less than 1km from Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, it features 4 long rows of undercover market stalls cooking and selling just about any local dish that you'd care to sample.
The traders - like everyone who crossed paths with us in Brunei - are very friendly and accommodating, most single servings of food would cost B$1-4 (vegetable dishes the cheapest, lamb the dearest) and you could eat heartily for around B$10 p/person.
There's plentiful free parking but be mindful that the market is mostly patronised by locals (always a good indicator of its value and authenticity) and gets very crowded from around 6pm onwards.
Highly recommend.

Cheap food in Town

As a local, night market or known as pasar malam is the cheapest local food you can get in Brunei. The market is surprisingly clean and always vibrant. It is a good spot for tourists and a must place to eat.

Amazing night market !

This market was incredible and the food was so so tasty! We got a taxi from outside the airport (6 hours between flights) and it was $B20 there and we booked him to pick us up a few hours later $B20 back again. The food is cheap $B1 for most things and please try the gilded pancake cakes they are amazing you get 5 of them for $B1. We also tried the doughnuts and the juices and the lemon honey ice tea too. If we had more time we would have eaten more but we walked across the road to check out the shopping mall. This place is huge! There’s a hotel attached to it and it’s on I think 4 floors, 1 floor is a cinema and food hall. There’s also a supermarket inside with great price food and clothing.
Please don’t be worried about walking around without a guide, most Brunei’s speak English and are very helpful and kind.

The most interesting place in Brunei, for a foodie! You should try Nasi Katok (rice and fried chicken) for about BND1. It is super cheap and delicious. A variety of local dishes are available.
