About
This magnificent mosque sits at the very heart of the capital city and the country's Islamic faith. Built in 1958 and named after the 28th Sultan Of Brunei, it is one of the most impressive mosques in South-East Asia. Set amid its own lagoon, the mosque seems to be floating, surrounded by lush greenery and floral gardens, while its glittering dome, covered in real gold, soars above the skyline. Featuring luminous stained glass windows, floors of gleaming Italian marble, walls of Shanghai granite, chandeliers from Britain and Carpets from Saudi Arabia, the mosque brings together the world's best materials in a tour de force of architectural beauty and spiritual ambience. A marble bridge across the lagoon brings you to a replica of a 16th century Royal Barge, which used to host religious ceremonies, like Quran reading competitions. At night, the mosque is illuminated, making it a vision to be seen. Opening Hours : Sun-Wed, 8am until 5:30pm, EXCEPT at Prayer times Closed : Thurs-Fri Shoes are to be removed before entering. Dress appropriately For Men : No shorts, No Sleeveless ( wear long pants) For Women : No singlets, No shorts, must cover leg ( wear Long pants)

Splendur at its best
Feb 2020
Went here at night as it's beauty could be seen from far with it's almost fluorescent green lighting in the golden dome & towers. The mosque was massive & tall and looked brand new. Everywhere was majestically covered in marble and was so clean. I loved the spiral columns and the fact it was surrounded by water. We did not go inside as we didn't feel appropriately dressed. There was plenty of taps to wash your feet before entering.

Just by looking at it you would know that its majestic. One of the well preserved infrastructure in Brunei. They say that if you bathe with the water from the mosque, evils spirit eventually would go...

Mind Boggling Must See!
Jan 2020
So interesting to see a mosque that has influences from Westminster Abbey! Built by the 28th Sultan. Take a look inside.

Beautiful building from both the inside and out, and best to see in different weather conditions. Also see it day and night.

Splendid

Within walking distance to the Brunei Hotel. Only open to public at certain hours. Try to wear pants because shorts are not allowed into the mosque.

Architecturally eye catching landmark
Jan 2020 • Family
A fitting landmark for a country that brands itself as "abode of peace".
Readily within reach by car/taxi in Jalal McAthur in Bandar Seri Begawan, the mosque is open to tourists outside of the prescribed 5 daily prayer times.
If you're driving a hire car, street parking right next to the entrances costs $1 p/hr or 50c for 30 minutes (in BND, remember to ask for a receipt for payment).
There's much to like about the complex with its gardens, lakes and the visually appealing structures inside.
An hour is more than sufficient to experience all there is to see and do.

Hard to avoid, but then why would you want to?
Dec 2019
The focal point of downtown BSB and the best building in town by far. Tourists are allowed inside a small area of the mosque (shoes off!) at prescribed times outside of prayer time, which are posted outside. Be sure to visit the grounds and neighbouring park for good all round views of the mosque and ceremonial barge.

Breathtakingly beautiful
Jan 2020 • Family
We were just driving past and called in for a visit. It was very quiet and we were able to visit inside as well. We put on the black cloaks and were able to go inside. The signs said no photos but the guide told us we were allowed. Its is lovely inside. We then we went outside to the water and walked out to the boat structure to take pictures. Its was so beautiful. We love all our pictures. Would highly recommend visiting the mosque. We are going to go back again and take pictures at night. Also when we left they just started their prayer time and we got to hear that. It was so beautiful and peaceful to listen to.
