We booked at this lodge for a two night stay and we loved the game drives and the animals and viewing was really good the rooms was lovely as well.
However unfortunately the food is really below standard with not a wide variety to choose from and for that reason we had to shorten our stay to one night instead of two nights as the breakfast only had hard boiled eggs and no bacon.
We would go back but only for a day visit to see the wild animals.

I must say I was not impressed by the rooms nor the food, for the steep price we pay a continental breakfast of bread, cold polony and boiled eggs doesn't cut it.
Donner wasn't impressive either, the lunch tried.

However the activities made up for all the pitfalls! So much fun I tell you, game range amazing ! Wine and cheese guide amazing!!! Boat cruise amazing!!!

This made it worth it

I would have given it a 5 but having only 2 horses for hours back Riding is jut abusing them animals and the food was just not that well !!! Buutttt wow. What fan !!!
The day time package is great value for your money definitely enjoyed every bit of it . I initially thought we would just mix out the activities but I found that it was more expensive so the k1200 is better value .
The staff are definitely polite.
My advice for you next visitor !!
1 . Contact the team using their Facebook or WhatsApp and make a booking in advance especially if you want to do many activities.
2.cheetah walks are at 16 so if you want to do safari , boating and other items ensure you are there early enough other wise you will have to choose which activity to forego
3.CARRY your own water cause 500mls is k20😅

All in all it was a great day!!

Considering that this is one of the few lodges, apart from Lilaya lodge you hear about when you come to Lusaka, I was surprised to find that it is very basic. People should stop describing it as an elegant place because it is far from being elegant. You have to manage your expectations. The horse ride is more appealing for kids not adults. We saw just a few animal during the game drive—nothing to write home about. Avoid the boat ride. It is dangerous and very basic—more of a canoe ride. It is a mid-size wooden canoe boat with a engine. You are given a life jacket. There is one guy who operates the engine. The boat goes round a very tiny lake. We were in line for the boat ride but after observing the whole operation, we decided not to go on the ride and went back to the lodge because it was too dangerous. The food was horrible—chicken, potatoes were dry. They ran out of bottled water and also ran out of dessert. It was a holiday weekend (last week). I would think that they would have prepared adequately since it was a holiday weekend and also since you had to make a reservation which means that they had an idea of the number of people who were coming. Customer service was terrible. The bucket of water for hand washing was full for hours and no one came to empty it. There was no one supervising. We asked to see the manager and they told us they manager was in the office. On busy holiday weekends you would not expect a manager to be in the office. He/She should be around checking on things. I think this is a resort that is living off past glory. They need to step up their game otherwise they would lose visitors seeking quality entertainment. I did not do the cheetah walk which is one reason why I think people like this lodge. But you cannot base your judgement of a whole lodge on just a 2 mins cheetah walk. So Chaminuka management—step up your game.

There are a load of activities available and we enjoyed the ones we tried, boat trip and safari drive. We didn’t have a chance to try the cheetah walk.
It was disappointing that the elephants were confined to a small concrete pit. I would have preferred it if they said that there were no elephants on the estate to seeing them confined in the conditions of a low quality zoo.

It was an absolutely terrible experience. We went as a school trip and had horrible service. Everything was pre-booked, but when we arrived, they had no idea we were supposed to be there. They made the children just sit and wait, then closed off all activities for 2 hours. We asked a staff member to be assigned to us, but they could not even provide that service. The activities we booked for before hand were not available the day we were there. We had to keep going to the reception every few minutes just so we could do a single activity.
I would not advise any school or large group of people to go there, as they are not equipped to deal with that. They were very quick to get the money, but provided poor service. An overall awful experience and not worth the exorbitant amount charged.

I went for a day visit (1450 kwacha) and arranged transfers from Lusaka through the lodge (1800 kwacha). The transfers were expensive (taxi with Yango is approx 950 return) but I figured it was worth it to have a trusted driver who knows the lodge. I was also told the vehicles were air conditioned.

The car that took me either wasn’t air conditioned or it wasn’t working. When we arrived the driver indicated he’d park up and wait for me to finish.

I did the game drive which was really good - lots of animals. Then had lunch - again very nice. I then went to join the boat trip.

I messaged the driver that I’d be finished after the boat trip. This was 2pm so I expected to be done by 3pm. The boat trip was delayed so it was 1530 when we got back. I rang the driver… who said he was at the airport 45-60mins away.

I was shocked. If I’d wanted to wait an hour, I would have arranged my own taxi! I thought I was paying so much more to get better service!

As it was, it was 90 minutes before a friend of my driver showed up to collect me (also in a car with no air con). Being disabled and not coping well with heat, the wait made me pretty unwell.

The staff at the lodge were very nice but no responsibility was taken for the fact that I booked the driver through them. So I had no choice but to wait.

It really spoilt what could have been a really nice day out.

Additionally, as a scooter user with limited mobility, I’d emailed the lodge in advance to ask about accessibility. Nobody mentioned that the lodge itself (and therefore the lunch buffet) is only accessible by stairs. There was also confusion around how to accommodate me on the boat trip /whether I could do the activity at all, but the staff were very helpful in making this happen on the day.

The day was plesently warm and we arrived about 10am via a driver from the hotel. There are so many activities to choose from , but we chose the Safari where we saw many animals icluding zebra, wilderbeest, baboons, elephants and Lions. We had drink in the beautiful bar overlooking the swimming pool and late, and were served a tasty buffet lunch. In the afternoon a boat ride on the man made lake teeming with bird life. Our guides were very friendly and imformative.

Though the drive from Lusaka was quite rocky, the property itself is nice. It was my first time in Lusaka, and visited the park in a group, not knowing about the experiences the park offered. I can appreciate the experiences offered, but it was quite sad to see the lonely caged cheetahs' and lion's fenced in home.

We didn't see the lion from where we were standing, but did see fresh and old bones from lots and lots of piled up meals that were just left there - and the sight and smell was off-putting and saddening. Getting close to the cheetahs, they seemed very lethargic, and I had a sense of guilt being there, especially after seeing the way the handlers would treat them (grab them from the base of their tails and pull up to stand, tapping and grabbing their snouts, etc.) The handlers were not very professional, and very bossy with the guests. I actually laughed in disbelief at one point during the experience.

For the best wildlife experience, I would highly recommend a visit to Lower Zambezi were you'll find the most stunning wildlife in their natural habitat.

Offputting with caged animals. Not a normal "safari" where animals are truly free and roaming. Save your money, go to Nairobi, Kenya and do a true drive through safari where you can see animals roaming freely. Cages are wrong.
