You can get things like small souvenirs to local art paintings. Most items are hand-made and quality differs.

This is probably the best place for souvenirs in Kigali, but if you have the opportunity to travel around the country, it's better to buy from cooperatives in the villages where you'll have a better contact.

A fun place for souvenir shopping, but most of the places all carry the same few things -- if you've seen a few stalls, you've more or less seen them all. Definitely bargain as the asking prices are at least 60% more than what they...More

The place has many stalls which sell the same thing. Mostly. It can be very expensive if you don't haggle as they will over charge you for sure, keep your cool as everyone will try and sell you things, EVERYONE. Apart from the hassles they...More

This is definitely a great tourist trap, but even the expats return. They have a wide selection of cheap things. The stalls do get repetitive. A couple stalls sell better quality things (ebony and masks). Bargaining is a must. I paid 30USD for an "original"...More

There are numerous separate cooperatives all at the Caplaki Craft Center where you can find any number of items to bring home as gifts. You can bargain there. Make sure to look through a good many of them before you go back to bargain for...More

The co-op doesn't look like much from the outside. Little green buildings in a cluster and narrow doorways. But you will find just about any craftwork you want - weaving, painting, sculpture, jewelry. Be ready to bargain and be ready to say "no" and mean...More

Cash would be best as I didn't see anyone taking cards and I suspect would be more appropriate for haggling. In terms of how much to take it depends on what you want to buy but aim to keep your cash secure
