The country and government should be deeply ashamed of the conditions the animals live in. It’s filthy and disgusting while at the same time heartbreaking to see the animals living like that. The animals should all be removed to a rescue facility and the containment...More

Firstly, its safe. Its a weirdly set out place but the people are friendly and in obvious need of your patronage. There's a sad little zoo of the Victorian style where the animal is nearly bigger than the cage. If you can deal with that...More

Visitors expecting western-standards for zoos and museums will be disappointed, but the exhibits give a great peak into Nigerien culture and history. The fossils that have been found in the desert are remarkable, and the exhibit on traditional musical instruments is very interesting.

The museums consist of several pavilions each hosting a small exhibit (art, uranium, traditional customs, weapons...) as well as a small zoo. It is opposite the Hotel Gaweye, and is easily accessible... Staff was very helpful, and this is certainly the main site in Niamey!
