First things first - doing this as a day trip in the wet season is a bad idea. It takes two hours to get out there from Addis and then back in again due to traffic and the rain renders the mud road up to the entrance nearly impassable....More
We went on a pre-arranged day trip with Venture Ethiopia. I would not recommend going with them for a number of reasons:

2. They were not prepared with our lunch which meant we had to wait...More

It will cost about USD$100 - $110 for the day for a car and driver. The traffic in and out of Addis is dreadful so allow 2 hours to get there.
