As a muslim it's wonderful to hear Azan in perfect Arabic language. Has a wide area for ablution. Inside you can see some phrases of Quran Kareem written on walls
For non Muslims you can enjoy a big Islamic monument in that far area.

This mosque is historical in a sense that it was built when Ethiopia was not free to the Muslims unlike now, it really is a great treasure.

I was made welcome there. Had to pay 1 birr for a bag for my shoes. When I was fumbling around to find something that small, an older chap stepped in and paid for it. The mosque is nice. Many people there.

The mosque is located in a filthy area and the mosque is not so different. ..

The vicinity is full of khat chewing people...countless beggars and pick pockets in disguise of little friendly kids..

The smell in the air is apalling....I went to pray at the mosque the carpet was so smelly and had to pay a shoe shiner 10 birr for polishing my shoes not so well and without my consent. ..

The picture posted on the site is incorrect. ..doesn't belong to Anwar mosque but rather Suhaila Mosque....

Pretty miserable experience...

I really wanted to visit but was directed to the women's building and when they discovered I was not a Muslim I was ushered quickly back into the street. Nobody spoke English which made it
difficult, which is unusual in Addis as there is usually somebody who understands.

Ah, fundamentalism. A young parishioner barred my entry, vehemently: Apparently I looked like a terrorist with my long beard and all. And how about my wife? Not a chance.

It's going to be hard to convert the world if you won't let them in...

Visited Anwar Mosque during my guided city tour of Addis Ababa. A nice structure, in the center of town. Worth visiting as part of your Addis Ababa experience.

yes an oldest mosque but in a crowdy place, I visited with the bless of God in the month of Nov 2017. Maint is Normal but very peaceful. Paying Shoe shiner is a unique job i saw there. City train like metro train is main transportation to reach from city and from airport cab.
