We spent 4 days in Bale Mountains National Park with friends over new years eve. Jamal organized everything very well and was able to adapt to our spontaneous decision-making regarding the trip, group size and accommodation. He himself had other guest (we book only 2 days before the trip), but organized us Awol as a great guide. He could answer all our questions (and we had a lot), was very friendly, reliable, funny and flexible to adapt to our wishes (in a group of 8 people always some extra wishes appear), solve problems (like broken hiking shoes of group members), spoke good english and also had very good time management (which is not always easy to find in Ethiopia) ;). The duration of the trip was good to get an overview of the national park and even do some hours of hiking every day, but I would recommend to take more time to discover more of it - because you can find amazing nature, endangered animals (Awol even found us 4 of the rare ethiopian wolves) and very nice people.
We stayed at Wabe Shebele Hotel in Goba, which was fine, but if I have the chance to go back - I will definitely try camping cause of the great landscape. Security was no problem at all - we felt save all the time. We had lunch every day in small local restaurants in the villages (Dinsho and Rira) and it truely was amazing food - all very fresh and well cooked.
Thank you for a really memorable trip!

Jamal is an amazing guide! We had such a great trip to Bale mountains. He was an amazing guide and even got us binoculars for the trip, which was one of my big requests. Every day we got to the camp there was tea, coffee, and snacks waiting. Our tents were set up and we could just relax! Jamal was really good at taking us ton the routes less traveled, so we were completely immersed in nature by ourselves. An incredible experience and I fully recommend Jamal as a tour guide.

We had a truly amazing experience hiking in the Bale mountains with Jamal and his crew. My parents + my wife and I went from Addis for 3,5 days and enjoyed it from start to finish. The whole organization was seamless, from Airport pickup to equipment transport, cooking, horse riding, paying fees etc. Since Jamal and his crew took care of us so well, we were able to just lay back and enjoy the beautiful and diverse scenery as well as the wildlife. Jamal was a very experienced guide, setting a good pace for us but also catering the tour to our desires (we decided to take a horse ride on the second day the night before - no problem for them), spotting wildlife with ease and explaining a lot about culture, history and nature. He spoke good english and clearly knew how to set up a hike in a way that enabled us to discover as much as possible of this beautiful park. Overall, I would highly recommend him as a guide!

I did an 18 day trek with Jamal. We were suppose to start in the Simian mountains, but had to make a last minute change due to unrest. We spent 12 days trekking through the Bale mountains and then finished up in the Awash area. We literally had the place to ourselves. On day twelve, I finally saw another tourist.

I had to teach Jamal a new word. Pampering. I got pampered. They took care of everything. I had a heavy 500 mil lens to take pictures of the Ethiopian wolves. Jamal always carried it for me (usually my day pack too). He arranged hikes with the Ethiopian wolf conservation program monitors that would take us near dens and explain what we were seeing. He arranged a hike to see the Bale monkeys with a scout from the national park. Snacks every time we got back to camp. Fresh fruit with every meal. An outstanding cook and general good guy Mamush. We had two horse men (Ammen and Awel) and three horses to haul our gear. Everyone was focused on making sure that I was comfortable and having a good time. They succeeded!

After Bale, Jamal took me to his home for lunch and I got to meet his family. We then proceeded to Awash national Park for birds, orax and crocodiles. The game is not plentiful like in the Serengeti, but there is much to be said for having the place to yourself. Two days, four long game drives and I never saw another vehicle. It was also nice that you could get out of the car and take a hike with the ranger.

Ethiopia is one of my new favorite places. It has friendly people, an amazing guide, wildlife and solitude.

I will be returning with my wife to repeat the experience. The only thing we will do different is to arrange for riding horses. You can get MUCH closer to the wildlife on horse back. I can unconditionally recommend Jamal. He was fantastic.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience hiking in the Bale mountains with Jamal. I've been living in Ethiopia for 4 years and traveled many parts of the country. The Bale mountains might have been my favorite trip and this was due to a large extent to Jamal being possibly the best guide I have met here in the country. He was very professional yet kind and very knowledgeable yet quiet enough for us to enjoy the scenery in quiet. Unfortunately Bale Mountain is sometimes considered not easy to travel but our experience was the complete opposite. Everything went extremely smooth, very beautiful scenery and the most stunning wildlife we've ever seen in Ethiopia, incl. 10 Ethiopian wolves, Jackal, Hyenas, Eagles, Buzzards, Mole Rats and even an Owl. I would absolutely travel with him again and would strongly recommend him to anyone interested in traveling in Ethiopia.

Had an amazing trip with Jamal in the South of Ethiopia. He was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. He helped in the planning of the trip and was very flexible to cater to our needs and wishes. We did a wonderful tour to Arba Minch, Dorze, Konso, Wondo Genet and the Bale Mountains.

Jamal arranged everything for us perfectly, from the transport (with the great Tesfaye as driver) to the hotels, food and activities. He made sure we didn't have to worry about anything. Also during the trip he remained a good level of flexibility and he adapted parts of the trip as we went according to our wishes.

For the second week in the north of Ethiopia we had booked another tour and I definitely regret we didn't have Jamal with us for that part. So wherever you will go in Ethiopia, ask Jamal!

We went on a tour with Jamal for a week. It was absolutely amazing. It quickly felt like going on a tour with a dear friend, instead of just a tour guide. With Jamal and our amazing driver Tesfaye we travelled to different cities in the south of Ethiopia. We did a lot of sightseeing, hiking, horseback riding enjoyed the hot springs.

Jamal is a very friendly, intelligent, caring and compassionate individual. He took good care of everyone in our group and made sure everyone felt safe and made sure we did something everyone loved to do. Jamal has a lot of insights about the animals, plants and the locations we went to.
Having a different tour guide during our 2nd week in in Ethiopia (in the north), really highlighted how wonderful our experience with Jamal was.

To make the journey fit to our student budget we took ODA bus from Addis Ababa to the Bale mountains. The journey there was already an experience with baboons and warthogs running along the bus and seeing steep cliffs.

Jamal gave us a warm welcome when we arrived at our destination and got us set up in the tent to start our trekking experience the next day. Jamal was a wonderful guide with a lot of knowledge on the local fauna and flora. He showed us so many different species of birds and he told us stories about the locals around the campfire in the evenings. He had a good sense of humour and always kept our spirits up when we were tired from trekking. The food was amazing prepared by chef Ali.

When it come to animals we saw many of them very close up: the Ethiopian wolf, serval, giant mole rats, baboons, warthogs, nyalas, bushbucks, redback, grey duiker, colobus monkey, many eagles, buzzards and hawks.

Overall this trip was an amazing experience and definitely something you should do if you ever travel to Ethiopia! And you will not regret having Jamal as your guide through this journey in the mountains.

Heads up!! binoculars are illegal in Ethiopia at this time so make sure to check the regulation before you bring yours into the country.

It was my third time visiting Bale with Jamal’s company, and it was absolutely incredible again! We did long day treks and saw lots of wildlife, including many different birds, 4 species of antilopes, giant mole rats galore and wolves doing different activities, like hunting, chasing each other around or strolling through the magnificent landscape. The tour logistics were top notch as always, thank you! We highly appreciate Jamal’s professionalism and his extensive knowledge about birds, plants and locations in Bale. Bale Mountains was and remains my top location for serious mountain trekking and nature tourism.

We did a trip with 4 people around the East and South of Ethiopia. It was an amazing experience and Jamal organized everything perfectly. Jamal is trustworthy and very detail-oriented, all while being relaxed and flexible. Would recommend his tour services to anyone! Ethiopia is a beautiful and very special country that everyone should visit.
