I climbed Kgale hill with my 21 year old daughter on a Sunday. It took about 50 mins to get to the top. I last climbed it in 1975 and have a photo from the top. Sadly the final bit is now blocked off by a radio tower. It’s a decent steady walk. Surprisingly clean but not well signposted hence the 4*. Luckily we followed someone otherwise it would have been stressful. We took an iDrive (Uber equivalent) to the car park at c8:30 am to avoid the heat. It was quite busy with lots of families and even a scout group at the top. We felt totally safe. There is not a great deal to do in Gaborone by Western tourist standards so worth doing this.

This popular hike whilst out the way on the outskirts of Gaborone has great views and won't disappoint.

**There are real issues of safety and muggings do happen. However if you go in a group, 3 or more, and if you go during the busier and cooler early mornings on the weekends you will be safest.

Follow the white arrows for a good walk and small scrabble at parts (managed by almost all but those with bad hips).... otherwise there is a concrete drive up to the top just to the right of the path - BUT ask for directions as its starting location isn't easy to find otherwise.

Most Batswana frequent this place for fitness purposes however it is also a great recreational place and you get an overview and a snapshot of Gaborone when you are up there and you see the dam. Make sure you go when it's not scotching hot. Mornings and late afternoons are a great time to go up but make sure you go as a group especially during the weekend or on public holidays.

Nice Walk. Two paths to the top - when you pass the first Hill and meet a Stone With two arrows on choose the Hill on the left for the hard rock climbing style path to the top or go right to get to the semi paver Road Which takes you almost all the Way to the top

By accident we took the rock climbing path- that was tough!

But excellent view from the top 😊 well worth the climb

Stunning view! Absolutely worth while going in the morning or evening!
30 minutes up-hill walk! But worth while the effort

This is a great place to go and hike. The view from the top is fab, as you can see the Gaborone Dam. It can get busy on weekend mornings and the track is narrow. Some litter which is really sad to see.

Situated on the outskirts of Gaborone (capital of Botswana) near Game City Mall, this is an ideal morning getaway especially on weekends. A short drive straight from Game City (instead of entering the mall parking) and the road turns left towards a gravel path and then again on left hand side, a makeshift parking exists, which serves as entrance to the Kgale Hill (pronounced Kaaley Hill) Public Park. Two adjacent paths can be seen, though both lead to the same first plateau with about 15-20 minutes of not-so-difficult rocky hike on granite rocks. From this plateau, a brief steep hike gets climbers to the top of first smaller hill, with a scenic view point on right hand side and a nice cool breeze. From this point, a 10 minute downhill and then a steep 15-20 minute uphill hike opens up to the top of the Kgale Hill from where Gaborone Dam and Mokolodi Nature Reserve offer beautiful views, as also the A1 highway going to Lobatse. Many people can be seen imbibing the views, doing light exercises and stretching at the hilltop. Undoubtedly, it is a popular destination for many locals and visitors, especially on weekend mornings when weather is not too hot. Children 10 years and above can complete the trail (both the hills) with enthusiasm. November and December appear to be ideal months, because of verdancy after the rains in the region. Walking path is easily noticeable and no particular tour guide is needed in this 2.5 hour (approx) adventure.

Hiked this awesome hill for the first time in August and I will definitely be frequenting it every chance I get. There is 2 ways to hike, through the paved road or the rocky steep path (most adventurous and exciting). The air and the view is amazing once you reach the top.
