Ewanrigg botanical garden is a nice place to go walking, especially with dogs or kids. Very cathartic! Nice picnic spots too.

We rode bicycles from northern Harare and then picnicked at Ewanrigg before riding back. A nice afternoon! The grounds could be better maintained so I hear it's only a shadow of it's former self but still a nice place for a group to meet up.

How wonderful it was to come out to these peaceful gardens, a well needed break from the city life of Harare. We travelled with two kids and an infant. We drove out early morning and stayed until sunset. Children liked the little bamboo forest and all the butterfly surrounding the little café called Aloe Café if I remember correctly. It’s worth the drive out from town! Enjoy the fresh air !!

it was a lovely day out with friends. The aloes had started to bloom and there is such a variety of aloes and succulents and other collected plants and trees. Lots to explore especially if you have an interest in plants. Possibly one of the most significant collections of aloes in the region.

Also a lovely spot for picnics and braais. Decent restaurant too.

The best time to visit this Botanical reserve is June / July when the aloes are in full bloom and at their best. There is something for the enthusiast who enjoy succulents and cycads.

With the teenagers back for holiday break from school, there was no better way to enjoy an outdoor activity than a barbeque. We were amazed with the huge collection of aloes and other succulent plants. Neat grounds and open space makes this place a more preferred venue.

Your reaction to Ewanrigg will depend on when you go. From May to July, the aloes are at their very best, and the gardens are aflame with vibrant colours. But with many examples of other rare and unusual plants, any time of year is good. The ideal may be to take a picnic and do your walks before and after a leisurely lunch, which you can cook under the shade of the trees if you fancy a barbecue. While the gardens are not yet back to their former glory, improvements are steadily being made. It is also possible to purchase plants from the range available at the entrance.

We had a very enjoyable afternoon wandering around these gardens, but they are definitely in need of some love and attention. Regardless we enjoyed some good birding at the same time and so was still worth the visit.

A lovely picnic site in the botanical gardens. A nice place to go for long walks and to see aloes and indigenous plants of the area. Great for bird lovers

Worth the drive out of town to have a look at the aloes and seem them in their flowering season. Like most National Parks / Gardens, there is so much potential and not enough funding. All things considered, its worth going out there for an afternoon - family friendly, with picnic sites for braai-ing (barbeque) and relaxing at.
