Dear friends arranged an outing to Thetford Game Reserve to celebrate my birthday with me. You will need to book well ahead of time as this is a popular attraction and well worth including in your itinerary. I visited in 2018, but I'm not able to click an earlier date than Feb 2020.

Great value for money! I loved it, if you love nature and wild animals and exclusivity then my friend make the booking. It’s about 30 minutes from Harare but the road is great, no potholes or dirt road. Did I mention that I loved it?

Alex was my guide for the game drive and he shown me the best of this reserve. Even though it is not Rhino time he drove all over the reserve to find them for me. We also saw Giraff, Zebras, Antelopes, etc... He also showed his Bull friend. And all for just 55USD. They provide free snacks, lunch, drinks as well. Unbelievable.
Thank you Alex for making my day such wonderful.

We booked in for Thetford after a few friends had recommended it. We were away for half term break. We were still so surprised at how wonderful it was. So close to Harare with an amazing safari (far away from Harare) experience. Waterbuck lodge is well maintained and beautiful. Naison was attentive and we had all our need catered for professionally and well. Although there were power issues, we hardly noticed just from the great experience that it was. The game drive is the best i have had in a while and the rhino experience is truly other worldly and just seals the deal. Really really beautiful. Alex was knowledgable and had a keen eye for detail. You would hardly think that he had only been in Zim for 6 months.Colin was a great host at the rhino meeting point. I will recommend this to other people who appreciate well kept secrets Great value and we will be visiting again!

Thetford is an amazing private game reserve in Harare that has been opened to the public in the last few years. I can’t say enough good things about this experience and I wish I had gone sooner in my trip so that I would have had time for another visit before I left.
They offer morning and afternoon game drives, and fishing excursions. Because this is private property, the experience is special and there is only one, full game drive per day (morning and afternoon). Although the property is just outside of Harare, it feels remote and peaceful. I went for an afternoon game drive that I booked directly with Colin. When I arrived at the reception house, I was met by Colin and Alex, the driver, for tea and biscuits before heading out. The other guests had to reschedule so I had the game drive all to myself, like a private tour. The breathtaking views of the property was like nothing I’ve seen and was awe inspiring.
Alex was a wonderful guide and very knowledgeable about all the animals. We got to see giraffes, impala, sable, buffalo, wildebeest, and zebras. At the end of the drive, we went to the rhino feeding location to watch the rhinos from a high platform. After enjoying some snacks and drinks, while rhino watching, we headed back to the reception just as the sun was setting. I would definitely visit again!

I visited with my mum and gf, staying for one night in the lovely Waterbuck Lodge. We were met by Colin who introduced us to Alex our Game Driver and Nissun (sorry about the spelling) our chef, waiter and house help. A lovely lodge with 4 bedrooms, a lounge and lovely views. We set off on the Game drive and made our way to the cave paintings which, after a short trek was a wonderful sight. We continued on the drive for a little longer, game spotting and being fully briefed by Alex who was very knowledgeable on most species. There were drinks provided throughout which was a nice touch. We then returned to the lodge to relax and Nissun made us a lovely lunch. We were then picked up and taken for another game drive to see the local Buffalo and on to the Rhino enclosure which was certainly the main attraction. We were driven to a raised viewing area and greeted with drinks and snacks as we watched over the rhinos feeding and interacting. To our added surprise we were greeted by a mother and 3 week old baby rhino which was an incredible experience. The only thing that tainted this experience was a lady who was part of Thetford who had come down to photograph the baby talking about British politics as we tried to enjoy the experience. This couldnt detract from our overall stay. We have recommended a visit to all we have spoken to back in Harare and in the UK.

The afternoon began with tea, coffee and treats at the Thetford reception area, where we were greeted by the friendly staff. After a while we then departed on our game drive with a very well informed guide. He was excellent in every way. We saw an incredible amount of animals including giraffes, zebra, impala, birds, buffalos and rhinos. During the game drive we were also given drinks and snacks. At the end of the game drive we arrived where the Rhinos are fed and at this point we were able to get out of the vehicle and get up close with them. It was an amazing experience. We then had more sundowner drinks and some very tasty snacks. The afternoon was very well worth it. 5 star experience

A wonderful place to get away if u require some time away from the hustle and bustle. Stayed in the 4 bedroom lodge 2 single 2 double so great escape for 2 families with children or even a group of adults...you have to book well in advance but it’s definitely worth the trip....lots of animals to see including feeding some of the wild animals...would definitely recommend a sleepover!!

Best game viewing experience in this part of the world. Saw a great deal of animals close up and within their natural habitat. According to management, they do not allow hunting in the reserve, so the animals haven't learnt to fear humans.

I did not see any braai area when I went there but there are snacks and all you can drink, drinks included in the safari fee. They did however say they can host events so maybe you could request braai?

Hi, you do need to book as all the activities are accompanied by a guide. There are various options available. We transferred the payment before going as there are no card facilities. We opted for the game drive followed by snacks and sundowners overlooking their 9 rhinos! Fantastic!!! I do believe you can take your own drinks and snacks etc.
How much is an afternoon visit? (game drive, drinks & appetisers) Are there day trip packages available?
