Great climb
Mar 2020
My wife and I rented a two person kayak from Go Bananas. We parked in the far lot and carried the kayak to the beach. It was a tuff job. Once in the water the paddling was easy out to the island. When we landed there were only a couple of other kayaks there. While going up we passed a few people coming down. The climb is a bit scary but manageable if you are in normal shape. The view from the top is unbeatable. We were the only ones on top when we were there and we went at about 11:00 during the week. We stayed for about ten minutes and had a snack. Now anytime we see this iconic island we can say we have been on top!

Our driver calls it the Hershey Kiss island
Mar 2020
Saw this on the North Shore tour. Our driver prefers the name Hershey Kiss island, for obvious reasons. Not much to do but take a few pictures. It's neat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

Mokoliʻi or Chinamans Hat
Mar 2020
Mokoliʻi or Chinaman’s Hat because of its cone shape, which resembles the peasant’s hat worn in rural China, was a place we viewed from afar during our Circle Island Tour with Oahu Nature Tours.

We could also see Chinamans Hat when we visited Kualoa Ranch.

Well Named
Feb 2020
This is really Mokoli'i island but is known as Chinaman's Hat. As you approach it and once you are near it there are changes that you see because of the different angle that you are at. Kualoa Park is the best spot to see it close up.

Iconic picture spot

Had to stop off and get some Instagram pics! 😜 But really, these views are stunning! The beach itself is pretty rocky, so just a heads up.

Chinaman’s Hat is a great place to stop for a few minutes. I was a solo traveler and stopped to take some pictures. It was worth it for the view!

Kayak to Chinaman's Hat
Oct 2019
Tour Guide: Celeste

Tour Size: 3 plus tour guide

Locations: Chinaman’s Hat, Secret Beach

Distance: about 2.5 miles

After you check in at Kualoa Ranch, there is a shuttle that takes you directly across the road to where the kayaks are kept. Celeste was our guide and she gave us a quick lesson on kayaking and basic safety. We each get a legit waterproof dry bag, which is large enough for a towel, dry clothes, and phone or camera. I would suggest bringing a water bottle, sunglasses, and maybe a hat or sunscreen. They also provide watershoes if you did not bring your own. I highly suggest watershoes because you will be walking in the water and on the rocks to launch and pull in your kayak.

Once settled, we take off from the beach and head to Chinaman’s Hat. The water is fairly shallow. You can see the bottom, which is only waist deep. If there is a small group, the guide will take you on a short hike for some pictures. Before kayaking off the island, we get a chance to swim for a few minutes to cool down. The next destination is Secret island. There is cold water available there and we also get a quick tour. After some more pictures, we get back on the kayaks and head east to the beach where the shuttle picks us and our kayaks up. That area also has a shower station to rinse off.

The shuttle takes us on a short tour of their farms as we head back to the Kualoa Ranch parking area.

Not required, but bring cash tips for the guide and shuttle driver.

I really like being on the water so this was my favorite activity I did.

Good Picture Spot
Sep 2019 • Couples
You can get a great view of this from the park. Me and my fiancé took a few photos in front of this for engagement photos. The only reason I didn’t give this a 5 is because I think the Mountain View in front of it is cooler. If I would have had more time in Hawaii I would have considered kayaking to it.
