Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave Tour and Picnic

261 reviews
Step into the world of the ancient Maya on a tour of Actun Tunichil Muknal, hiking and wading deep into a series of tunnels, chambers, and passageways. Support from an experienced cave guide ensures a safe trip into—and back out of—the maze-like cave network, where you’ll find the "Crystal Maiden," the crystallized remains of an ancient ceremonial victim.

Ginormous Thanks to Judy and everyone at BBG for a most enjoyable stay. This place is truly magical what with such a vast array of tropical flora and fauna in a beautiful location. I learned so much during my time there studying medicinal and edible plants plus many of the other components that go into growing and maintaining a successful garden. Rudy as my guide explained things to me in a very thorough, precise and down to earth kind of way. When Ken & Judy acquired this land in 1993 it was just cow pasture and with their labor of love plus lots of dedicated help have transformed it into a slice of heaven right here on earth. The cottage where I stayed situated adjacent to the property was delightfully tranquil and surrounded by an abundance of nature ~ so awesome to awaken every morning to the symphony of bird calls. Also really cool to see school groups visiting BBG from all over Belize and knowing about the outreach to local communities creating opportunities for kids to learn meaningful new skills after which their success rate at finding employment in the botany field has been remarkably high.

We love birds and plants so the gardens were full of both. They have done such an amazing job with the variety. Its both informative and a great walk.

This was our first tour while in the area for a week, and we did our best to convince every tourist we met to check it out. It is so beautiful and expansive. The manager, Rudy, gave us a lengthy tour that was just fascinating. The trails are very well maintained. The Botanical Garden has a shop in San Ignacio and that is where you make the reservations, transport plans for the tour.

My mom and I went for a visit to the Belize Botanical Gardens and we were so impressed. We were greeted by Roxi upon arrival who made us feel so welcome and set us up with a guided tour. The grounds were truly nature beauty at its best. We had a wonderful guide named Enilson, who was asked many questions by those in our group and he was so knowledgeable. It was such a lovely morning and I can highly recommend it to anyone that is even slightly interested in local Belizean flora. I will certainly be back again.

The grounds are laid out well showing one the different plants of Belize and elsewhere. The guides are very friendly and informative. The view from the Fire Tower is great. Birders will not be disappointed either.
