Well done

The memorial is well done. Tasteful. Inspires reflection. Shockingly peaceful surrounded by the city. My mom was born at Tule lake. This memorial hit close to home.

Worth seeking out
Apr 2019 • Family
We visited the memorial when we were staying in the Liaison hotel, which is about a minutes walk away. Interesting visit and we were surprised at how impressive it was as it is hidden away and not really somewhere you would notice when walking down New Jersey Avenue, one of the approach roads to Capitol Hill Worth a visit if in the area and have a spare half hour as it is only 10 minutes walk from Capitol Hill

Quiet memorial off the beaten path.

I have stayed multiple years nearby for conferences and I have not been aware of this memorial being right out the door of my hotel. It is hidden on a little triangular lot that is between three streets that come together where the radial “wheel” streets cross with a Letter street. The memorial is a quiet, reflective place noting the treatment, contributions, and thanks dealing with Japanese Americans in camps and in the military for the US in WWII. Worth a stop when you are nearby.

Pleasantly Impressive

Off the beaten track, it's not a massive well-known monument, but it was a big reason our group came to Washington DC. A lot of US citizens were incarcerated during WWII, and this is a sober reminder.

Small but poignant memorial
Aug 2018 • Friends
This small triangular park pays tribute to an overlooked part of US history and is quite moving. The crane sculpture is beautiful. I had only heard of the Manzanar camp, but all of the other campus were listed along with the number of people held there. The memorial is within easy walking distance from the capitol, so it could make a nice side trip if you also want to see some of the bigger tourist attractions.

Needs better signage, but a beautiful poignant memorial
Apr 2018 • Business
I was walking from one office to the other and I saw these beautiful rocks on what look like an infinity pool. I had no idea what I was looking at and I had a little bit of time so I walked around and into what I soon discovered to be was Memorial. Once I started reading the inscriptions it was evident that this was the Japanese internment camp Memorial. I immediately thought back to the book I read in middle school, The Prisoner of Manzabar. This Memorial represents a time in our history in which we didn't trust people who are absolutely Americans first. It even speaks about the military Regiment of Japanese Americans who fought for the United States in World War II. The signage about what this Memorial is needs to be better but once inside it's very simple but very poignant.

Interesting and nice memorial

An interesting and nice place. Very nice for reflection. Very interesting monument and well represented and symbolic. A subtle art, but with a strong meaning. Worth the visit! Located close to the Union Station, almost across the street. Would be nice to see with the Cherry Blossom tree blooming, but I could not see when I went there.

Beautiful monument to Japanese internment camps. A sad moment in US history. Little known, but close to the US Capitol.

Subtle and Important
Jan 2018 • Family
Japanese Americans served with distinction in the US armed forces during World War II. This tiny memorial understates their contribution and sacrifices. It is neither grand nor garish - it is quite the opposite - but it captures in words etched in stone the debt of gratitude we owe to an American minority that was abused but stood beside us anyway.

They Too Served.
Aug 2017
This memorial is for the Japanese Americans who served as G.I's in WW11 and for there families at home in the U.S. who were detained in 10 camps throughout the U.S. even as their sons were fighting, bleeding and dying for their country. It is good that the U.S. has established this monument in recognition of the service of the Nisei G.I's and the unjustified suffering visited on their families. Visit this monument with which a great nation recognizes that great nations can make mistakes and can say "sorry."
