This is a small castle with steep steps to the ramparts. For those who don’t like heights or have walking problems, there is a secluded shaded garden full of trees and scented herbs and toilets. Ideal for hot days. There’s even a couple of musicians...More

We stumbles across this place by accident. We were able to spend a couple of hours climbing the stairs and wandering around the walls to gain superb views of Tavira and the view beyond. The gardens are gorgeous and well kept. At times access to...More

You could almost say that this is a cute place to visit. It’s a small castle with steep steps to the ramparts. There’s a secluded garden full of trees and herbs. There’s even a couple of musicians playing in the grounds. Just outside down the...More

The lower entrance to the castle is an unassuming gateway and a staircase. This leads to more stairs and then up to the tower and a great view over the town and out to sea. From there you can walk though a small pretty garden,...More

Call in here every time I'm in Tavira - glad to see hand safety rails have finally been installed on the stone steps! Lots of flowers in bloom still in October, great views in all directions and it's free to enter!

Monday 15th October we visited the remains of the medieval castle in Tavira, basically all that is left is the shell of the castle, the outside walls. There are no grand stately rooms or anything like that to see. However, there is the adventure of...More

Castelo de Tavira is a poignant reminder of how important Tavira must have once been. The ruins are quite melancholy, but it is a fascinating stop. Free entry. Check the hours. It closes at 7:00 during the summer and at 5:00 during the winter. You...More

The entrance of the Tavira's castle is free. But do not expect to visit a castle, only the walls remain, from which one can have a nice view on the city and the surrounding region. Very nice garden inside the walls.

Don't expect jousting and armour! The views from the top are impressive but that's about it. If you're passing then stop in, but if not recommend making a special trip.

Hello. I see that you already have got two good answers. I will just add that the tourist information is in the town centre, easy to find, and you can get more advice from them. Enjoy. Tavira is a very lovely place.
