I'm sure the museum isn't terrible but I tried to gain access 3 times in my 2 week visit, each time it was shut. Tourist Office next door had no information on opening.

In the rain we came inside and were charmed by the 8 min video of Tavira's Islamic past. Very interesting.

Small museum telling the history of Tavira under the Moors. Mostly artefacts but with reasonably good info (we were given an English translation in a laminated book at reception). Not too pricy, and nice way to spend an hour or so. The temporary exhibition on...More

Small place but nevertheless interesting. There was an archaeologist there when we went and she was incredibly informative. The short video at the start was very good, too, and followed up by a visit to the church behind- amazing! You can buy a combined ticket,...More

We loved the collection of objects on display. The story that this museum tells and the wonderful artefacts are fascinating. Some of the ceramics are both simple and sophisticated. Well worth a visit. We bought a combined ticket to the Municipal Museum and enjoyed both...More

Museum contains some great artefacts and exhibition space. Good information, but as English tourist it was from a book rather than a display - as understandably the displays were in Portuguese. Space was a bit small to truly appreciate how good it was.

This is just amazing. The intricate design of the objects found is just mind blowing. If you don't come here during your visit then you are mad
