After the Salt Mine, Take a Peek Here if you Have Time
Jun 2019 • Family
While we had only a little time after the Salt Mine tour, we spent a little while walking around the Castle grounds and took a peek in the Saltworks Museum. I definitely would do the Salt Mine tour over the Castle and Museum, but stop by here if you can. Since you enter and exit the mine in different locations, the Castle and Saltworks Museum is conveniently located near the exit.

Little disappointing
May 2018 • Family
As long as I loved salt mine in Wieliczka, the castle was slightly disappointing. It is also on Unesco list together with a salt mine, but I am not sure if it really deserves it. The exhibitions are small and not really interesting. You can see something, it is even quite pretty, but not real 'wow'. Poland has another, more beautiful castles.

Not to be missed!
Mar 2019 • Couples
If you visit Krakow it would be a shame to miss a tour of the salt mine. Located approximately. Half an hour drive from Krakow centre (depending on traffic), the salt mine boasts some amazing underground chambers, statues and chapels.

The mine has produced enough salt to build the pyramids of Giza! Be aware though, you have to descend the mine on foot down hundreds of steps! There is, however, an entrance to make the mine accessible for disabled persons.

Once you get to each of the three levels you visit on the tour out of a total of nine, you will be amazed by what you see and encounter. Allow three hours for the underground tour. In summer there are approx. 9000 visitors a day. It's warm too at about 16 degrees.

There are toilets when you are inside but not until the end of the tour where there is also a shop and a cafe.

To get back to the top you have to get in a lift. It's an extremely small lift (2mx1m at the most) they squeeze 8 people in them and the doors open inwards!!! It's cosy to say the least, luckily you are at the top in 45 seconds.

Floors are uneven and slippery in parts so wear sensible shoes!

Worth a visit.

Interesting place, our guide was clear consice and informative.
Be prepared for hundreds of steps thankfully all downwards. Plenty of walking, so comfortable footwear a must.
Food in the restaurant is very nice and cheap.
Only down points are the queuing, plenty of it and you have pay 10 zloty to be able take photos which seemed odd thing to have to pay for.
I'd given them 5 out of 5 but paying to take your own photos after paying 98 zloty to get in does take the p...

Not many things in life to see are free
Nov 2018 • Couples
Well we stumbled across this as we arrived at the Salt Mines and had an hour to wait, we wondered off and soon found ourselves by the Castle, we were allowed in and had a look around. You can climb up the stairs of the tower and from there you have a lovely picturesque views of the area. A great bit of history and just in the grounds is a shaft you can also go down. This for me gave me a small insight as to what we expected to see in the Salt Mines.

Fantastic Freebir

You can walk the ruins in the courtyard and go in the exploration shaft for free a good 30 minutes or so to do which is very worthwile if visiting the mines also. Lots of information boards also to help you learn about the history of the castle and poland as a whole.

The gorgeous Castle superstructure!
Aug 2018 • Solo
The Castle Building itself is attractive and well wort visiting as an adjunct to any Wieliczka tour, and in its own right as an antechamber housing important relics. My photos of the exterior of the castle really turned out well, it is that photogenic from the outside.

not a lot on but it is free
Sep 2017 • Friends
We stumbled upon this while waiting for the salt mine tour. It did not have a lot of exhibitions but it was free and there were descriptive information for the sites/buildings. We spent 10min there which was an excellent 10min in the otherwise saddest touristy town ever. The town centre had a mini square with a few shops that looked like they supply mainly to a retired community.

Expansive, deep and cool (literally)
Aug 2017 • Friends
It's quite amazing what artifacts and exhibits they put on display 135 meters below the city above. It's a very interesting and expansive collection of salt mining history. Tours are conducted in many languages and take about an hour. Wear a light jack and have walking shoes on.
