The composite sculpture known as Bremen Town Musicians was created in 1990 by Bremen artist Krista Baumgaertel. (Bremen—Riga’s sister city—is a sprawling city southwest of Hamburg, Germany.) Legendary musicians perform music on Skarnu Street between the church and the convent yard: a donkey, dog, cat...More

This is a tourist location placed to entice tourists to "rub something" brass. Although Riga and Bremen had a historical connection, the sculpture is a blatant attempt to get tourists to feel a connection to other European locations with authentic "rubbing" sites. Sorry, but it...More

The statue is the present from German city Bremen to its friend city Riga. Nice for pictures and gives a luck, if You rub the noses.

This kind of goofy statue based on a Grimm's fairy tale, is an amusement, rather than artistic, feature. The "good luck from rubbing all four noses" deal makes for a nice tourist photos. A quick visit is certainly sufficient.

Seems that rubbing the noses of the four animals (at least of one of them) brings good luck. Some are skeptical but, however, the statue it's a good opportunity to take some pictures. Or to make fun of the ones rubbing noses :-)

Worth a wander past to get your picture taken with the musicians of Bremen town from the Grimm fairy tales. There are also a few market stalls nearby selling nesting dolls etc

Don't miss this fun statue if you are in the Old Town. A good opportunity for an unusual selfie. Which animal are you?

It was unexpected to meet this monument in Riga; but that was a good surprise! And traditionally, noses of animals are shining as they has been polished by millions of tourists!-)

I was surprised to see them here in the middle of Riga‘s old town. Why the Bremer Stadtmusikanten from the old fairy tail of the Grim brothers who scared away the robbers with their singing? Because Riga is the sister town of Bremen and got...More

Average. Don’t have high expectations. The area around the square is s bit of a tourist trap. Take a photo, make a wish and move on.
