The Viru Gates separate Tallinn Old Town from the new town. Outside the gates is a long line of flower shops, quite a scene to behold. It is very romantic to visit Viru Gates at night with all the Old Town lights are on.

I really like this area of the city. Gates are very charming. Flower market next to it, open I think 24h, is additional benefit of the place. I like that one side of gates is modern town, the other one is old town. Very suggestive.

This is part of the old town and so beautiful, it actually represents fairy tale pictures. Always busy. Take enough time to enjoy and stroll at leisure around this part of town.

Impressive entrances to the Old Town. The corner towers are the only thing to remind you of the entrance in the Old Town (chocked by the commercial buildings)

One of the best places in Tallinn to walk around, everywhere leads to somewhere nice, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops, cafes...lovely place, polite and beautiful people all around

Not challenging the fact that the Gates are beautiful, even though only a portion of them still stand tall today. But, when exiting Old Town from these gates, you are then greeted by a flower market on your right... and many restaurants on your left,...More

Such a striking bit of history to look at - so who in their right mind would allow the siting of a McDonalds right next to it. Totally crass and ruins the atmosphere of such a wonderful entrance to the city.

Many guard towers along the old town wall defences, best to view from either side to get a perspective of their fields of view

You feel like you are in a fairytale when entering the city and the surrounding walls make it very easy to imagine how the city was years ago.

This gate is a landmark of Tallinn and is so unique to this city. Particularly beautiful at night, when it is lit.
