About
Triglav National Park is one of the most im¬portant natural treasures of Slovenia. It is named after the sym¬bolic mountain Triglav (2,864 m) and is one of the oldest parks in Europe. The first protec¬tion attempts date back to the year 1906. Thepark covers nearly 84,000 hectares, almost the entire territory of the eastern Julian Alps. The Triglav National Park (TNP) is the only Slovenian national park. The management of the Triglav National Park is the responsability of the Triglav national Park Public Institution, based in Bled. The national park is a model example of successful harmonisation of different interests focused on a common goal: well-preserved nature, landscape and cultural heritage. The values of a national park are a motive and an attractive goal for visitors who respect the exceptional nature and cultural heritage as well as the peace and quiet of the area.

    Fabulous national park
Beautiful national park not far from bled city, fantastic for people that enjoy the outdoors and hiking. I was lucky to visit park on a nice day and the trees, greenery, mountain views were impressive. Lots of different options for walking paths so take your pick and enjoy.

    Huge natural area
The entirety of Triglav National Park is huge. It surrounds the mountain of Triglav, which the highest mountain in Slovenia and part of the Julian Alps. I'm sure there are many different ways and places to spend time here. We chose to spend a day driving through the park, mostly via the switchback road up to Vrsic Pass, and doing a few short hikes. All were beautiful, with plenty of mountain scenery, although be aware when we visited (June 1) a lot of the higher hikes/trails were still snow-covered. We were definitely glad to take a day of our vacation to appreciate the lovely nature in this park, and I'm sure there's plenty more to see and hike with more time available.

Beautiful nature with so much to choose from
Short of spending a month here, you cannot possibly see it all. We took a few days to get around to several different areas and would have loved the time for several more days. A stunning park with fantastic small towns and great hiking trails all around. Depending on what you like to do, there's is absolutely something for everyone.

We did it in two strokes. First, we went to a place where there was a long ledge, maybe a mile long where you encounter a fairly large herd of sheep ( watch your step! ). There were mountains to the right, mountains to the left and a huge valley in between. Scenic? Positively. We spent an hour, at least, and we did not want to leave. Where you park your car there is a cafe and a play area with slides, swings etc. for kids. We even took a turn on the swings when the kids moved on. It brings out the child in you. Thinking about it, that was probably the prettiest place we ever swung. We then went on a road through the park and that was much less scenic, with occasional flashes of beauty. Somewhat disappointing. If we wanted more, we probably had to do hikes which my wife would not be able to manage. If you visit Bled, you must visit here, as well. And you must visit Bled.

Driving through the Vrsic Pass is a real experience. It was cloudy when we went one way and when we returned in the sun it was a totally different experience. There are places to stop and lots to see inc the Russian Church and remains of buildings from WW1. There are some sad stories on the mountains as well as some wonderful views and wildlife.

Being April, there was still plenty of snow on the ground at altitude, which limits hiking, but makes for a beautiful and fun time. So much to see and do. The Vrsic Pass being a good start and introduction.

This was the hardest hike I will ever do, but so worth it!

Even though I am used to to hike long distances, this was something else. Almost no flat parts, very step at all ends, narrow paths, and the constant limestones under your feet in different sizes. The scenery is marvellous. Take a guide with you. The paths are hard to find and the weather can change quickly. The guides also know where to find water and who to call for information or emergencies.

The Canyon is very interesting, it is relatively short and there is only one way through it . To go back to the parking or the bus station, you have to walk more than you do in the canyon. It is a little tricky to find the bus stop at Zasip , the driver wouldn’t stop to take us back, but we walked back home.

We drove this circular route around the mountain on a clear sunny day. The scenery is special with quite a few stops along the way. The 50 switchbacks up the pass weren’t too bad, and the drop into the lovely Soca valley was worth the trip. At the end of the circuit, we were surprised to find out we were 2 hours from Bled along winding narrow roads. That was the challenging part. Next time, I’d break the route in half and spend the night in Bovec, which was cute and charming. Otherwise, it makes for a long day.

As a nature lover, Triglav Park was on my activities list during my trip in Slovenia. The park is in the Julian Alps, therefore offers the typical beautiful alpine landscape :)
There are different paths and you can find information on the official website and at the "ticket office" at the entrance. My friend and I are quite active and we chose a medium path, which was actually very easy, on the way up, we hiked along a small stream, arriving at a waterfall. We had a packed lunch with us, and on the way back, we stopped for a drink in a typical place, which really added to the visit.
The park is very well looked after.
Nature and photography lovers are going to love this place :)

We loved it.
Beautiful nature, great hiking possibilities.
The hiking routes are clearly indicated.
We visited the wonderfully Triglav falls and did some nice hiking near the Bled area.
There are parking lots and toilets near the parking lots.
There are also lots of other possibilities besides hiking: paragliding, kayaking, canyoning,..
