About

Nice churche to discover behind Florian gate, bit a side but architecture merits to be seen. You ll find it 200m from Florian gate when going straight ahead from gate

Dating back to the 12th or early 13th century

Located at the top of Plac Matejki, St. Florian's Basilica is dating back to the 12th or early 13th century and consecrated by Kraków bishop and historian Wincenty Kadłubek. The church is said to have been built on the spot where oxen transporting the relics of St. Florian - a 3rd-century Christian martyr who had just been deemed the patron saint of Poland - stopped and refused to budge.

Very nice church, close to our hotel and shopping mall.

The church was only about a block away from our hotel. We stopped in for a few minutes-very nice exterior and interior. JP II was a priest here.

Pretty church

Situated a few metres away from St Florians Gate and behind the Grunwald Monument is this church with a sign that claims it’s the most beautiful church of Krakow.

It certainly is as would be many of the churches that dot this historic old town.

Beautiful church

We visited this church as a sign outside claimed it was the best church in Krakow, although it is a beautiful church and worth a visit, in my opinion the best church in Krakow is St Anne’s.

Beautiful House of Worship

We recently visited the Collegiate Church of Saint Florian (Kościół św. Floriana w Krakowie), a historic church dating back to 1185 that stands at the northern end of Matejko Square. From 1949 to 1951, Father Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II, worked at Saint Florian Church as a vicar. As Pope, he elevated the church to a minor basilica in 1999. He also visited the Church on his papal pilgrimage to Poland in 2002. We were able to take a few pictures of the interior of this church without disturbing anyone. While a bit off the beaten path of tourists, this beautiful church is worth visiting.

13th cent. Baroque style church , located at the tip of Plac Jana Matejki , only 200 meters north of the Barakan Krakowski .
Rather plain outside , beautiful inside and not crowded . If yoy stay in the area , you can start your Stare Miasto tour .

Another beautiful church.

St Florians Church is an absolutely stunning church that although not as big a tourist draw as churches such as St Mary's Basilica, Church Of St Peter And Paul, Church Of St Andrew and the like that attract hordes of tourists no doubt due to their location in the Old Town, this church is no less beautiful.
Constructed by 1216 in the Baroque style of architecture that is so pleasing on the eye, this church stands on the corner of Matejko Square and St Florian's Church marks the start of the Royal Way .
The church interior is awesome, beautiful decor and features abound throughout the church and the exterior is less beautiful, it's set in beautiful grounds and is very photogenic indeed.
The church is easy to locate ,walk through the Barbican and pass the magnificent Grunwald Monument and the Church is found on Ulica Warszawska.
A beautiful church, one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.
