The road is in my opinion the most beautiful one in Romania. Very beautiful landscapes and also not too crowded.

We drove south to north in July after driving down the Transfagarasan and staying overnight in Curtea de Arges. We visited the Woman's cave on the way, which was interesting and a worthwhile break from all the driving. The Transalpina itself, I believe trumps the...More

We drove north to south on a Sunday morning and encountered little traffic - probably because it was raining and there was a lot of mist about. Plenty of hairpin bends and hard climbing on this spectacular route. Well worth driving.

This is the most amazing road I've ever been. Absolutely extraordinary landscapes, but a difficult road which is closed from evening until morning. And if you want to make a stop to eat something, I recommend "Stana Stefanu", with traditional shepherd food.

Usually, the part starting from Rinca towards Sebes is closed due to bad weather. The weather is very unpredictibile and could vary from day to day. So is imperative to ask before going there. Enjoy.
