Overview
More
Established by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) in 1851, Sevenhill Cellars is the oldest winery in South Australia's Clare Valley and the only remaining Jesuit-owned winery in Australia. Originally set up to produce alter wine, Sevenhill is now recognised for its premium table wines, which express the Clare Valley's distinctivevarietal characteristics. The historic winery and cellar door, St Aloysius' Church, the College building and the surrounding vineyards and spiritual sites give visitors an opportunity to combine appreciation of some exceptional wines with an understanding of Sevenhill's religious and historic significance. You can discover this rich heritage on a guided walking tour or you can follow our walking trail using our map and information. Guided tours are scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm or by appointment at weekends. At other times, visitors are welcome to undertake the tour by themselves, using our map and information.

This winery has a lot of history. The lady behind the counter was very knowledgable about the history and wines. Would recommend a visit. The gardens are beautiful. Even in winter

Revisited the cellar door to see the feline successor, but the note said "Not in residence today". Not withstanding we sampled the large selection of whites, reds and fortifieds on a busy day. The service was very friendly and naturally we bought too much! Stocking...More

The Sevenhill winery was started by the Jesuits in the mid-19th C and is still owned by them, but they no longer make the wines. (There is a Jesuit retreat on the grounds). There are some really interesting old buildings on the site which visitors...More
